Kitty Update So Big Bad Kitty went to the vet today to get the stitches out, her third eyelid opened back up,and let us see how that eyeball was doing.[More:]

It's interesting. It looks like the eyeball has been saved, but as of now there doesn't seem to be any vision. The vet says it's at about 75% healed from where it was when we took her in; it's much, much better. There's a bulge in the surface where the puncture was, but staining the eye found no ulceration or irregularity in the surface. The bulge may recede or may be permanent.

I can't get the bulge to show up in pics, even with macro. That's okay, you probably didn't want to see anyway.

The eye itself is a milky blue-purple-white. I think this came through okay in the pics, but obviously they do show an eye that's been damaged.

The vet wants me to treat the eye for another two weeks if I can; she's having to stay in our un-airconditioned sun room, however, and I'm starting to worry about her getting overheated. It's reaching 90 degrees outside, much less in the room designed to concentrate heat. I have a blanket staplegunned over most of the windows, and other windows open, but it's still very hot in there. (Allergies are why she can't come inside to a spare bedroom, poor Mr. G.)

She was maaaaad at me this evening, poor little girl, but once I coaxed her into my lap she was happy to cuddle and get scritchies. I think she heartily disapproved of being stuffed in a small box and carted back to the vet. I did expect her to get more cautious about me after all the meds wore off, but she's only become more cuddly.
Well, drat, I borked the link. Link to pics of kitty with opened eye:

Good morning! Thanks!

I really am disappointed that Ripley can't go out and play with her family, that she needs to stay in and be medicated for another week or two. She hates it in there, we're worried about how her family is doing without her, it's killing my back to handle her multiple times a day, and every day she's there Mr. G's allergies get worse.

But we are so, so, so relieved that she gets to keep the eye. After two weeks with the eyelid stitched closed over it, we just didn't know what we were going to see yesterday. We're so glad the news was positive, even if it included "she can't go back to the colony yet."

I think I may have seen some blink reflex late last night when she got her last set of eyedrops. Hey! Yeah!
