13 February 2011

I got slipped a roofie last night. Random complaining and shouting. I was out with friends last night in my hometown of Austin, TX. Made a rookie mistake-left my drink on the table repeatedly while we danced. [More:] By the end of my second drink, I was stumbling, confused, disoriented. I went to the ladies room and that's the last thing I remember until I woke up in the ER five hours later. Rape kit negative, thank God. Friends found me passed out, unresponsive, weak pulse on the floor of the ladies room. I feel okay today-tired, achy, all bruised up from likely falling down. And not hung over of course because I had very little to drink. But I am PISSED AS HELL. Why would someone do this to someone else? I was with a big group, it's not like I would have been an easy mark to pull into the backseat of a car and rape. I was wearing some nice jewelry so maybe that's why? I'm struggling to piece together something, anything from that time and just drawing a blank. I feel like a baby-here I am, having ended up in the best possible place after such a bad situation-alive, not attacked-and all I can do is be mad. Thanks for letting me rant a bit.
That's fucked up, supercapitalist. I'm sorry you had to go through this, but I'm glad you were with friends and that no further harm came to you. Be well.

Oh my God I am so, so glad that you are okay and that your friends were able to be there to help you. (((whufles)))

It likely had nothing to do with your jewelry or your outfit or anything you did or didn't do. It was a dickwad asshole predator who should be in jail. I am pissed off on your behalf.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'm glad you were not sexually assaulted, but I understand how angry and upset you are that you could have been. That sucks. :-(

Scum. Total scum. I'm with you: how, and WHY, would someone ever do this to another person?
posted by Madamina 14 February | 00:13
Thanks for the support guys. I can't help but think that if the person who did it had ever been under the influence of that drug themselves, they NEVER would have done this to someone. I wish like hell I'd caught them at it.

That's horrifying, (((supercapitalist))). I'm so glad nothing worse happened. And, of course, being angry is totally understandable/acceptable. Fuckers.

Do bars typically have security cameras? I suppose the lack of lighting would be a problem.

So sorry to hear it, and glad it turned out relatively ok - had to pick up my sister from a similar situation a couple years back and try to help with the comedown. Would hope that it's just random assholes, because I just can't grasp that mindset.

I am so glad you survived that experience unscathed, what a horrifying situation.
I think the predator that did that was probably just an opportunist, spotted your unprotected drink & tried their luck, hoping that you'd become disorientated & separated from your friends like a lion hunting gazelles or something. *shrugs* Try not to spend too much energy analysing their motives and methods. Their brain is clearly broken.

*HUGS*

Be safe out there, bunnies!

(((supercapitalist)))

I'm angry for you! That is all kinds of fucked up. Very glad your friends found you.

The bastard who did it is clearly broken. Like goshling said - they failed, don't think about them or their motives anymore.

I can' believe someone would actually do such a thing. And yet someone did! What a world this is!

How completely horrifying. So glad you're okay after the experience, supercapitalist!

Holy shit. I'm glad it turned out for the best, in that awkward instance where "the best" is still pretty damn alarming. I never thought leaving a drink nearby qualified as a "rookie mistake." I guess it's one of those things I've never had to consider before as a male. Scary.

Oh wow. You have every right to be mad. I'm glad your friends were there for you.

That's awful. What an effed up world where something so violating as being drugged without your consent is just the tip of the iceberg of terrible crap that could have happened. Take extra special care of yourself for a while.

How awful. I'm so glad that you had friends to take care of you and that nothing else happened to you.

Oh, that's terrible, supercapitalist. So sorry it happened, and very glad you had a bunch of friends with you.

Seriously fucked up, though. Some people are just not really people, inside. At least that's how I cope with the "how could someone do that" questions.

Ugh, that really sucks. I am so sorry.

Very sorry, and very glad you dodged that bullet.

Holy crap! I'm so glad that it's turned out relatively not-bad. Sheeesh. The things that happen eh?
posted by richat 14 February | 10:25
That's monstrous. I'm so sorry you had to go through that, and being MAD AS HELL sounds like a very reasonable visceral response.

You went through something very nasty, both physically and emotionally, and it had the potential to be far, far worse. That's a bad feeling. It's no surprise you're furious. That is not you being "a baby," it's you feeling your feelings.
posted by Elsa 14 February | 10:27
That's terrifying. I'm glad you were not robbed, raped, kidnapped or other badness. But being drugged and passing out is frightening and traumatic enough. How are you supposed to go to a dance club if you can't leave a drink unattended? Sending you whuffles.

That sucks!!!!! Hugs.

That's horrible - I'm so glad you're OK. A while ago I was wondering if roofies were more of a scare media exaggeration, but you are the third person I've heard have it happen in less than a month. It's a scary and fucked up thing to have to add to the list of things to worry about.

I am so sorry. What an awful experience for you.

I'm appalled, and of course you didn't make any mistakes here. This is all on Mr. Would be Rapist. So sorry.
posted by bearwife 14 February | 17:24
Christ, what an asshole, to say the very least.

I am very glad that you are relatively OK.
posted by danf 15 February | 10:04
Holy shit! I can't believe that people can do this, but, of course, they do. Hope you feel better soon, physically and emotionally.

So I was part of a big tribute to Gaiman's Sandman Series a few weeks ago (NSFW) || OMG... bunnies?
