Your shoe is untied! [More:] This is the thread where you can say something interesting about shoes or you can solve my mystery:

My left shoelace has stayed tied (with a single-knot bow) for months. My right shoelace comes undone all the time. They are identical laces on a matching pair of shoes and a matching pair of feet. Oh. Holy cow, there's an ANSWER! There, now it's a link.
I was fascinated with this site when someone linked to it in the huge "You were doing it wrong" thread in AskMeFi. Thanks for putting it up again here, because I've been reminding myself lately to print it out and check my shoelace knots.

my mind is absolutely unable to follow the illustrations on that site (absolutely) but I saw it a while ago and I 'think' I got it; I started changing something about the way I tie shoe laces (something about passing something under something else instead of over) and find it doesn't come undone at all even if I tied it loosely

wait we're talking 'something interesting' about shoes randomly in here?

1) i'm thinking of starting to buy formal shoes again, my pair count is still in the single digits alas
2) I find myself just using sneakers almost all the time though for comfort/convenience reasons
3) However I want to switch to wearing formal shoes more again cause you look at how sneakers go to hell in a couple years whereas the nice shoes (at least for me) look almost pristine and I like longer-lasting things these days
4) I used to think a shoe hobby was expensive until I've recently become interested in watches, jewelery, higher-end bags etc. and find that actually a nice shoe or two upto a few hundred dollars is just a fraction of the real high end in other categories! So shoe collecting is totally modest and justified

Yup, the mystery was solved, so it's a "say something interesting about shoes" page.

1) Nice shoes are nice, it's true. I prefer 'em, too. I also enjoy wandering around barefoot in the summer. Happily, that's kind of normal for my social group because we have a couple of full-time barefooters.

2) I live in a rich college town, so I get lots of fancy, sturdy shoes for cheap or free. So many that I have a nice pair of knee-high leather boots in my go-back-to-thrift-store pile.

3) Turns out I really like shoes that are a couple sizes too big for me. They slip on and off more easily.

4) Someday I'm going to learn how to make shoes. I've watched them be made from bike tires and tubes before.

I didn't think people actually tied their shoes using a granny knot. Then I saw someone do it and I was shocked. It seems so obviously wrong to me.

I tried this 'right' way to tie your shoes and mine still came undone, so I went back to the 'wrong' way with a double knot.
