I've been hacked! [More:]My gmail was hacked into, I think this morning. I'm not sure how; I never click on suspicious links or anything. Maybe some bot figured out my password. Anyway, Google was kind enough to detect suspicious activity and make me verify my account and change my password (which I did). The only damage done that I can see is that one email was sent out from me to about 10 addresses (most of which were defunct). The email contained a link on which I obviously did not click. The only other change was that my display name disappeared, and when an email was sent out it just showed the email address (I changed that back). So is the crisis over? Or is there something else I should be concerned with or do? I am nervous about signing into Gmail notifier with my new password, but I'm not sure if that has any basis in reason.

Do you have any password reminder emails in your GMail account that contain passwords to other services? If so, you'd probably want to change those.

This happened to me some months back. (In fact, many folks here received an email from me peddling "electronical laptops.") Changed my password for all my gmail accounts and for other sites I visit regularly, just in case. Nothing bad has happened since.

The crisis has abated.

Oh, another thing you might check -- do you keep any Google Docs with information you don't want others to have?

I didn't. I had some files with account numbers for utilities -- city services and gas/electric. I figure, though, that if someone wants to use them to pay my utility bills, they can go ahead and do that. You might check, though, to make sure they couldn't have gotten any information through Google Docs, if you use it.
