Boardwalk Empire. Anyone watch it?[More:]

Wasn't sure what to expect, but wow, loved it. Really looking forward to the rest of the season. My big fear is that it's going to be too expensive to produce, like Rome was, which will result in HBO scrapping it.
Was really looking forward to it and was not let down. I love the look of that era, sort of half-way between Victorian and Modern and it really did a good job of putting you in such a specific place and time. My wife said she was half watching just for the hats. That first episode did seem a little overstuffed with characters and situations but I assume that they'll slow down a little in the following ones. I love Buscemi in this role, he usually plays weaker characters, it's fun to see him in control of things.

I have a tiny personal connection since my grandparents were members of that culture about five years later. My Grandfather played soprano sax in jazz bands in speakeasies in NYC; I don't know if he played Atlantic City but he could have easily. I know that they were there since I have a picture of the two of them on the boardwalk in 1920's bathing suits.

No, we stubbornly persist in not paying the HBO subscription amount. I think I'll be looking for it on DVD in a few years.

I had such high expectations (not sure why) that I had to be disappointed. I will continue to watch, however.

Haven't seen it, but I did hear an interview with Terence Winter & Steve Buscemi on NPR last week. Like bearwife, I'll be looking for it on DVD or online.

Well, it's already in the "saved" part of our netflix queue because like bearwife, we don't pay for HBO. Looking forward to it.

Gorgeous, like pups I hope the cost doesn't kill it too soon.

I'll have to keep watching. It was okay, but I'm also going to have to pay more attention and not play Sporcle when they elucidate things like why the Italian guy had to go or stuff like that. And now I'm reading the stuff about Capone and thinking, "Huh? When did he come in?"

Also, why has Oliver Platt never played Al Capone? I was thinking about what I thought Capone was supposed to look like, and it's pretty much just like Oliver Platt.

(Yes, I know there are photos.)

Oh, good tip, gaspode. We do pay for Netflix, will add it to our queue too. How nice not to have to wait to see it until 2013.
