3D Printer (NYT Video) I think this is pretty amazing! [More:]It's a 3D printer that can build CAD objects from drawings. They can even make prosthetics. And it's only $5000 plus materials, plus Autocad, plus the knowledge of how to use Autocad. Ok fine, I won't be getting one but still it's very cool!
This kind of technology blows my mind. Especially when they get into making parts of different materials- that's the future right there.

See also the evil mad scientist lab's 3-D sugar printer. I agree: mindblowing. this stuff seems like science fiction. WE LIVE IN THE FUTURE!

The London Hackspace (where I can occasionally be found working on things) has a 'Cupcake', which is a DIY 3D Printer from MakerBot Industries. These can be bought for under $1000 in kit form.

Also worth checking out is the Thingiverse, where people freely share designs for things that you can print on your 3D printer. There is even a design on there that will let you make a MakerBot make a MakerBot.
