Hi bunnies! How's your Sunday?→[More:]
So far mine's involved cooking brunch for four adults and two adorable children: bacon, sausage, fried eggs, roasted tomatoes, portabello mushrooms, fresh bread, and Dutch babies with caramelised apples. *burp*
I got up bright and early at about 7:15, made coffee and went to the grocery store. Got ingredients for stuff to cook today, but breakfast just now was leftover rice and beans. And a donut. Bought the fella a mocha on the way home, which he much enjoyed. Rest of the day will be mostly errands: library, Costco, Goodwill, etc.
(Also, as I mentioned on Twitter, I am super envious of your tasty meal!)
Woke up much too early but am at work right now. I need to cook the green beans I picked up on Thursday and make lunches when I get home. My day is oh so thrilling.
OK so far - woke up late-ish, even though the last few hours of sleep were ruined by one of the cats walking all over me in an attempt to wake me up. It disrupted my dreams of bringing Barack Obama some candy, and getting upset because he wasn't in his office for my appointment with him. I stood there cursing myself in the dream: "Of course, you idiot! He's the President! You don't bring him crappy store-bought candy, you need to make him homemade candy."
That behind us, so far I've managed coffee, putting away some difshes, toast, and getting on the internet. A shower and getting dressed are in the near-term agenda. If all goes well, perhaps I can even think as ambitiously as going out to the farmer's market.
Up at about 5:00, got coffee brewing and a little cold breakfast, took the pup out for some exercise, had my cereal and whatnot, did some raking around the yard and cleared a spot for a second compost pile and started building that up a bit. Little bit of reading. More dog stuff. Spent a lot of time tying to solve a new twisty puzzle, listened to Wait Wait, fried some potatoes with bacon and onions while I was listening. Cleaned the kitchen floor. Getting ready to go do groceries for the week.
Got home at midnight Friday night, after a horrendous encounter with I-5 traffic through Puget Sound and then another bout of contruction through Salem late at night.
Spent yesterday just hanging out and washing clothes and cleaning and this morning the washing machine (a 25+ maytag) won't turn on and I am trying to troubleshoot that.
Woke up just before 8. Made coffee and an english muffin w/blackberry jam. Then I sliced off a thick hunk of turkey ham. Had a few hazelnuts. Contemplating the fresh strawberries next. Also, feeding the cat a few of all her favorite treats.
So far so good. Enjoying the rare full day with my husband (well, he's cooking brunch in the other room and I'm on here for a few). NEED COFFEE, so I'm out.
Busy. busy busy busy busy. oh so busy. Freelance design job for old job, trying to finish today because I then have a photography / art show opening on Thursday. Am trying to get everything framed: cutting foam core, cutting mat board, way behind and my framing skillz are not up to par. So I'm not enthusiastic about how they're gonna look but have run out of money for framing, so it will just have to do. There are benefits to showing in dimly lit bars. Then I'm catering a party for my brother in two weeks. Busy busy busy busy. Busy is good.
Stayed up too late watching trashy 70s thrillers. Thank you, Ardiril, for recommending that first one! Now it's after noon and I've yet to get a shower or get dressed. Luckily I don't have anything that really needs to be done today, except maybe some laundry.
Was up way too late messing around on the internet, so didn't get up till after 10. Then I had a nice bowl of cereal and a shower, put on nice clothes (I have a meeting later, for Sunday School/Hebrew School teachers), realized nice clothes will be covered in cat hair by the time I leave, and put pajama pants on instead. Now I'm hanging out reading a book that is pretty crappy so far, watching the cat knock my to-read pile off of the coffeetable, and thinking about finishing my impending nephew's baby blanket. And watching Phineas and Ferb.
Shitty, thanks for asking. My dog hurt herself on Friday night, and I posted this question about it over on the green last night. She's in pain, despite the meds she is on. She has to be taken to the vet tomorrow to be sedated, so more tests can be performed. I feel like shit, really guilty. I had JUST taken her leash off of her at the park, and she went after some squirrels. She cut at a strange angle and just dropped. It was horrible, and I feel terrible about it. Under the best estimates, it will be two to three months until she can resume a normal life.
My in-laws are on their way here, and I am making shrimp and grits for lunch, which is good, but everything tastes like ash in my mouth right now. All I want to do is lie on the couch with the dog and watch shitty television. I hope they don't mind. (My father in law is actually a big fan of shitty television, but if there is a golf tournament on, I am toast. I might as well break out the vodka now).
I did some hard work in the front garden, and am now watching the football. Man Utd had the chance to go 3-1 up, but missed the penalty, and within seconds Fulham equalised. There are seconds to go ...
It's a good lazy Sunday so far. I'm mostly recovered from wandering around the CNE with friends all day yesterday. I did basically nothing this morning, then one of the cats flopped in the kitchen and stared at me while I cooked bacon, scrambled eggs, and baked beans for lunch. Now I'm doing laundry, the pace of which is being limited by the dryer, so the excitement level remains bearable.
i have a cold . so i havent left the building , except for when the fire alarm went off at 4am . good news was there wasnt a fire, bad i'm still feeling lousy. i hate summer colds
got up early to start working to try and finish all my work (usually finished on Weds) before we go to Prague tomorrow! Yay!
Did some work, ran some errands, started packing.
Now Maddie is napping and I am going to do some more work for an hour and a half or so until she wakes. Then we will do family things until her dinner and bedtime upon which time I will work again.
Also invited people to Maddie's 2nd birthday party. Shit, that means we have to host a birthday party full of toddlers. Gulp.
Got out of bed at oh-dark-thirty (going on an early shift for a couple of weeks starting tomorrow), dorked around for a few hours, picked up donuts and made coffee for the still-sleeping family, then hopped on the bike and did 20 miles. Home, showered, helped the spousal unit with some laundry, then off to pick up a few groceries and some stuff for a small project in the master bedroom. Back now, about to eat some lunch, then I'll probably go buy myself a new camera today die, shitty astigmatic iphone camera, and will try to mow the lawn before I crash out after dinner for my 0200 alarm.
Whew. Feels good to be able to go at this pace, but I'm glad it's not like this quite every day.
I suggested that I pay my partner my rent share every time I get my biweekly paycheck, instead of every month. The difference was $200 over a year. So then we started finagling things like the phone and power bills to make it correct, and now I am going to pay him $10.12 over what I had originally suggested.
He says I'll have to make up that 12 cents in kisses. We kissed, but then he said that one was really only three cents' worth. So what's a nine-cent kiss? (And if I do it every day, will he owe me?)
Got up early and did my chores so I could attend an afternoon barbecue. This left enough time for a midmorning nap. Got up early from nap and decided to walk to coffeeshop. Saw a bus coming, decided to hop it and save a few minutes.
Bus turned out to be a shuttle replacing the G train, so I ended up in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, a half mile out of the way. Walked back over the Pulaski Bridge to get my coffee (I will not be deterred). Storms are roiling the sky. The barbecue has been canceled.
My sinuses are making a funny chirping sound as they squirt throbbing pain into the corners of my eyes.
I've been shopping for a plain black cotton tee to wear with a black cardigan for an interview on Tuesday. Have been able to find black, but not plain. Also new black loafer-type shoes because the current pair is so worn out you can see inside the heel part, and heels make me fall over, and oh god I detest shopping.
Speaking of which, interview! Antenna systems for a satellite building company in SF Bay Area! I don't know much about antenna systems at all and will be cramming all night! omgomgomgomg. (And great big thank you whuffles to everyone for all the supportive replies back when I posted about getting laid off and where to go and what to do - there's nothing like good wishes from Internet people to help stay motivated :)
Update. . .got washing machine going. Bypassed the lid switch, which has not worked anyway for several years (it probably gave up totally this morning) and just connected the two leads with electrical tape.
It was pretty easy but my wife now thinks I am the greatest person in the world. I'll let her think that. It'll pass. . . .
I also got up early to do some last minute cleaning. I hosted a birthday party today for my sister's fiance's son. My backyard is large so it was a better space to have a party full of young boys.
The birthday party is over and I still have some neighborhood kids that are lingering. They're playing video games.
I also mopped my kitchen floors this morning with my new Shark steam mop. I like it. My floors were particularly disgusting and it did a good job. I had to use both sides of both mop heads.
The dog ran out with all of the commotion and was gone for 45 minutes. Everybody was worried and was offering to help capture her. I explained not to bother because she thinks it's a big game. Thankfully nobody called animal control. She finally came in when she was thirsty.
casarkos, Gap, J-crew, or Banana Republic should have plain black Ts. Do you have any of these stores nearby?
The mister woke me up at about 10:00 a.m. with waffles for breakfast. Went back to bed about 11:30 and woke up at 1:30. More than an hour later my head is still feeling fuzzy.
Just left msali a comment at AskMe.
Future:
Gonna check out MeTa.
Gonna play WoW.
Dinner is ribs in a honey/garlic sauce and french fries.
Have fun in Prague gasp ode! It's one of my favorite places.
Okay what have I done in the woods. Er, the motor failed on the boat and I had to row to shore, which was hard but approipately manly. I then counteracted this by hitting small town thrift shops and found a deep, rich vein of flannel. I set up the hummingbird feeder near my reading nook and watched the little buggers fight for it, the little jerks, and then I made a list of all the meals I want to cook on the grill and then I took a nap.
It's so quiet here I can hear the beating of moth wings across the room and it,s comforting cause otherwise there is no sound and I am not used to that yet. I turned on audible keystrokes just so I could hear myself working.
Got Indian take-out. It was a feast (meat somosa, curry prawn, vindaloo prawn, basmati rice, garlic nan, mango chutney). Really hit the spot. Watching M*A*S*H with my honey. Took a nice long shower, washed my hair twice. I'm so clean I squeak. I may make a gin and tonic. I'm waiting for the ice. Jon has whiskey and Chips Ahoy.
I played with a very cute, very articulate little 2.5 year old for a couple of hours at a family thing. Squee. He's so funny and adorable, and he's the least fussy child I've ever met. He had a lot of trouble grasping the concept of air hockey; he thought that when the puck went into his own goal, he'd won. It couldn't have helped that he could barely see over the little table.
Good times. I can't wait until his newborn baby brother is old enough to play with.
Drove to downtown Seattle and found out Elliott Bay bookstore had moved.
Went to new location and was hit by a kid being swung around by his father.
Thought second half of meetup was at 5, waited for two hours until everyone else showed up.
Went to movie after meetup; my father called and said my uncle (his brother) is very ill. He was losing his voice at my father's b-day party on Saturday, but thought he just had a cold. What's been described to me sounds a lot like the flu I had last summer.
He isn't well enough to fly (he went to the ER but is now back at his hotel). I'll speak to Daddy in the morning and get an update.
