Lately, I like to relax at the end of a long day by....→[More:]
getting drunk while watching an arty movie. Tonight's selection: Herzog's Encounters at the End of the World and red wine.
OK, that's after a REALLY hard week in the IT trenches. I threaten to watch Thursday more often than we actually do (I threaten about every other week, but we watch it about once every other year, but we alternate those years with Fight Club), but we both love tequila.
Usually, we enjoy the PBS Mysteries and some beer or whiskey & water. I occasionally sketch or paint at the same time, which is good for me personally. Poirot, Marple, and Foyle are our favorites.
I've been lying on my couch in a stupor watching Season 1 of Bones. I wouldn't count this as particularly "relaxing" but rather as "all that I'm capable of." Actual relaxation would probably involve reading - which is an activity that requires that "brain" thing and as such, I'm not so awesome with it in the evening when my brain has been sucked out by two highly energetic kiddos.
The best relaxation for me is Friday night, for that is when we do our big apartment clean and the laundry. We generally finish around 8.30 then (hopefully the kid is asleep, lately she's been awake later and later, yammering away to herself), order food and sink onto the couch with a beverage of choice. good times, good times.
One of the local TV stations, on their .2 digital channel, broadcasts Star Trek TNG every afternoon. I discovered this during the first season, so 3 times a week I plop down and enjoy.
These days my best friend/roommate and I have been watching The Muppet Show on DVD. It's silly and awesome and a great way to relax. Plus, we get to see celebrities from the 70's, which is kinda weird and fun.
Our weeknight routine is dinner, followed generally by watching our DVR recordings of Jeopardy!, the Daily Show, the Closer and Lie to Me. And I sip some red wine in what my husband calls my Lazy Girl chair. Ahhhhh.
I flop facedown on my bed or couch and lie there for about 20 minutes, which is about how long I can stay in that position. Then, I make some dinner and read stuff on the tubes.
