OMG want This is a thread for discussing how awesome/horrible/meh those electric massage chairs are![More:]

I love them, probably because I don't have one. Every time I see one at an airport or something, I jump at the chance. Yet I don't feel that tense or stressed most of the time, so I'm not sure where the WANTness comes from! Mysterious.

Now lie back, relax, and set the remote to "gently knead"!
Oh how funny these are so everywhere here - especially if you go to hot springs. Bit bulky to have at home though.

I like the ones that do the calves as well.

The've just put some in the little shopping mall near work. I may avail myself of them during some particularly stressful work days.

I so hate these. They always have them in pedicure places, and always turn them on for you. I always feel so discourteous as I turn them off again immediately.

I do like the real thing when it comes to massage. The chairs, nooooooo.

I was in John Lewis in Oxford St this evening where they had one of these (not as fancy as the one in your link, mdonley), almost hidden away behind a pillar and this guy was sitting in it, playing with the remote and looking utterly blissed out.

A few years ago I went to one of those Mind, Body, Spirit festivals and they had a chill-out zone with massage chairs. My friend and I spent so long in them they had to tell us to leave and let someone else have a turn. I love 'em, but yeah, way too big to have at home.

I think there's a bit of Star-Trek-ish, this-is-the-future-! appeal to them as well. This one is insane.

Also: massage vest!

My sister has a nice, low-profile massage chair - I think it might be purple!

The last time I visited her I sat in it for almost an entire weekend. It was marvelous, but I was in pain for about a day after I left. Like anything else, moderation is key :-)

I went to a salon that had massage chairs at the shampoo sinks. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I find those shampoo sinks to be extremely uncomfortable. Something about having my neck kinked back while I'm still sort of sitting up? Anyway, the stylist turns on the chair, so then I've got my neck kinked back AND the chair is sort of jabbing away at me. Worst shampoo ever.

I like these in a normal seated position, however. Especially if they are heated.

massage stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system.

Oooh, jeoc, I hate the heated ones. No, I'll correct that. I don't mind where the back part is heated, but I hate the seat to be warmed. It feels like you've shat yourself.

No! I loved the heated seats in my last car. Having a warm bum is one of the genuine joys in life. I used to keep the heated seats on all the time. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
