Movies that will live forever on cable →[More:]There's a certain kind of movie which may or may not have done well in theaters - but which makes perfect cable TV fare. As such, it is programmed perennially and enjoys unusually long life.

To my mind, the archetypal example is Murphy's Romance with James Garner and Sally Field.

I think "Shawshank Redemption" was the first movie that made people say hey, it no longer matters if the movie doesn't make a profit in the theater!

Office Space is one I like. If I remember correctly, it was a box office flop when it came out, but it's always on somewhere.

Similar, but sort of off topic, my friend and I have a saying, "At any given moment, somewhere in the world, an episode of M*A*S*H* is playing..."

Well, I don't watch much television these days, but back when I did, my favorite babysitting movie to watch of ALL TIME is Xanadu.

"In Xanadu did Kubla Khan a stately pleasure dome decree" I will remember for always at least one line of poetry because of people singing and dancing on roller skates.

I've never set out to watch either of these movies, but I've seen both several times on those lazy days where you just click until something catchers your attention. Is it bad to say I enjoy both movies?

Some of my favorite movies, I would've hated in theaters: Witness, Real Genius, Sorority Boys. One I saw in theaters and hated then but loved in rewatching: Dude Where's My Car?
