Make a photo reportage of where you live... This is my reportage of where I live; in the medieval city of Utrecht.[More:]I really liked the photo friday where the theme was 'where do you live'. All our everyday worlds are so different. It made you guys/gals really come alive to me.
But maybe not everybody has pictures lying around of where they live. I didn't because I see it every day so there's no need to take pictures.
So I strolled into town taking pictures of things that tend to draw my attention. Keeping in mind of course that I was showing stuff to foreigners. And that was quite fun to do.
So; let's do that for a photo friday some weeks ahead.
I really want to see where you guys live and what your everyday life is like. :-)
I made a whole photo set of houses in my neighborhood last year but since I was doing it for color scheme inspiration, most of the pictures are closeups of architectural detail so you don't really get a sense of the area from the set.

Oh how lovely! I'm pretty sure I've wobbled past this when (very) drunk and asked my mates to explain to me what it was. Since they were equally drunk, the conversation made no sense at all in the end.

Also, I'm game. Bringing the camera with me out one of these days. Not that I go out much.

dabitch, those pictures are all from my Pittsburgh neighborhood, Allegheny West and the one across the park, The Mexican War Streets. They're both on Pittsburgh's Northside, right across the river from downtown.

That house that you put dibs on is still on the market, pretty expensive though.

Wait, you call 2,126,207 SEK "pretty expensive"? That's a steal around these parts for something with two bathrooms, fireplaces and 3 bedrooms. I'll take it!

Now.... All I need to do is find a job in Pittsburgh.. Ha ha ha. :)

Gotta love a hood that's called "Mexican war streets"

From the city's site:

The Mexican War Streets were laid out in 1848 by General William Robinson, Jr. who later became mayor of the city of Allegheny. Just returned from service in the Mexican War, he subdivided his land and named the new streets after the battles and generals of that war.

There are no actual Mexicans around here; Pittsburgh's not very diverse, less than 2% Hispanic. Which explains why you can't get decent tacos around here.

And yea, that's expensive around here. The median home price in the city is around $100K. It gets more expensive out in the 'burbs obviously but inside the city limits is very cheap. I've had friends buy houses for as little as $30K. Life in the rust belt.

Hmmmm. I wonder if there are an y ad agencies in Pittburgh that fancy an aging international art director......

You know, Pittsburgh is on the very short list of places that both mr. g and I would like to live. I think that house price issue just skyrocketed it to the top of the list.
You do not want to know how much the condo we are in the process of buying costs. Eeeesh.

nice pictures Jouke! I'm currently moving to Utrecht, still commuting between U and Groningen at the moment, untill we find an affordable place to live. Nice to see I already recognise most places.
You've mixed up Willibrord with Bonifatius though. Apparently Willibrord is responsible for the bulding of the Dom.

That's quite a commute Charles.
Thank you for correcting my mix up of Bonifatius with Willibrord. I corrected the text.

--------
So who's in favour of each of us doing a (small) photo reportage of where we live?
So far dabitch has shown interest.

back when i used to take a lot of pics, i posted them on my site . i think that should suffice as being a decent reportage of my part of the world

I've already done mine! Lets take a stroll through Malmö _ i was just walking with Perle, so the pictures are pretty much snapped as we passed by.

I'm going to do this sometime soon, I think.

I like the idea of people just posting them when the mood takes them. So we might see one or two randomly every week or so. Rather than making a specific Photo Friday for it. Thoughts?

I took another walk around Utrecht via your photos. So they're toughening up on the squatters now? I guess it's a bout time..? I dunno, on the one hand I saw some lovely buildings turned into odd restaurants and nightclubs in a good way by organized and creative quatters.. On the other hand I also saw a lot of damage being done to some very pretty buildings and that's a shame. Empty buildings is a sin though. Very nice city.
