This is a sad thread... [More:]My beloved cat is really sick. The vet is making one more attempt at treatment, but if this doesn't work (he has acute kidney failure, following blockage of his urinary tract) it will be time to say good-bye. He's only 5 years old.

I'm really sad and am crying a lot today.

Very sorry. And it's OK to cry, of course.

aww thanks guys. It's funny that I can be open about how upset I am here, where I've met none of you, but am not crying on my real-life friends' shoulders (apart from mr alto who is doing his best but has a lot on his plate at present).

oh, I'm so sorry for you and your cat.

I bet your RL friends would love to give you RL hugs.

We're real! Really!

Having said that, I'm sure your friends who are physically nearer to you would be happy to offer their shoulders.

Oh, I'm so sorry. I had a cat go at eight with that. It's not a fun thing.

Whuffles and hugs, alto.

Sorry to hear it, alto. Only 5 - poor thing. You are doing the right things to take care of him and make him comfortable. I will hope for this treatment to take hold.

Kidney failure is bad. 5 years is too short!

So sorry alto. Hugs to you.

Oh, honey, I'm so sorry. It's terribly hard --- and hope can make it even harder, but hope is so deliciously comforting, too. Take care of yourself as well as you're taking care of your cat.

I agree with you that sometimes it's easier to express pain or sorrow here. It's helpful to have someplace safe and just one step outside your "real" life.

Thank you so much everyone for all the kind comments. I provide a happier update here (and is the little bastard grateful for the treatment that saved his life? is he 'eck as like. [note: Northern English dialect])
