Stoli Dolis! Have you ever had one? Ever made them? →[More:]
We started a batch last Wednesday, really looking forward to getting knocked on my butt by them this weekend. I lluurrvveee pineapple.
There's a steak house in town with those huge jars with the pineapple like the ones in that first photo- I never knew what they were. I'm usually there at lunchtime w/ my mom, so I'm not usually having adult beverages while I'm there. May have to change that next time.
I had tasted it 4 or 5 days in and it was undrinkable.....like rubbing alcohol with citric acid in it. So right now (8 days in) I just took a little cheaty taste...oh wow. It tastes like pineapple juice. Cold and delicious and oh so dangerous!
Our regular bar does this every once and a while. I think I've tried it once, but don't remember whether or not I liked it. We've done something similar with light rum, limes, sugar, and mint to make a mojito base. Just add club soda and you're good to go!
Relevant to nothing: I two women from Irkutsk were at our house one night and we were having Stoli screwdrivers. They told me that the Russian term for screwdriver is the same word in Russian that means "fish." It was not "pыба" (as google tells me) but some other word.
I read this as Stoli Dolls and for some reason I was expecting a craft tutorial on how to make those Russian nesting dolls - matrushka dolls? - out of old Stoli bottles. Which would also be cool but this sounds far more useful.
We didn't really use any sort of recipe. We took an almost full handle of bacardi light and loaded it up with lime slices (with the rind and most of the pith cut off), mooshed garden mint, and sugar. It sat in the fridge for several days, shaking it every so often. Maybe you could take a recipe for a standard mojito and extrapolate it to a full handle of liquor?
No, haven't heard of these, but reminds me of one of my favorite stories of my dad's.
He was (the only) doctor posted on a small Japanese island, which at the time had a population that was half U.S. Navy, half Japanese. (This was late 50s, early 60s) There was a party at his infirmary, and in preparation he and his medical staff injected some large, ripe watermelons with hypodermics filled with vodka. Everyone had plenty of slices. They got happier and happier. Finally, as one drunken attendee staggered off, people called after him, "One more slice for the road!!"
Anyway, fruit and alcohol often go well together.
I myself am partial to orange infused Absolut, straight, after it has spent lots of time getting viscous with cold in my freezer compartment.
Yep. Back in the day, Mr. Days Sports Rock Cafe was in the alley by M street in DC. I was a bartender there and we made it regularly when the summer came around.
