Multipoint update! We know the drill.→[More:]

1. Broke up with my boyfriend. I feel so awesome over it I feel guilty as a result.

2. this makes no sense to me. I had to put on Rozz era christian death to put my mind to rights once more after reading and contemplating it.

3. I'll be 31 a week from tomorrow. this... concerns me. I want to take advantage of the "half off on your birthday" sale at the local piercing shop and get my nose done. I'm too young for a midlife crisis, right?

Too drastic a lifestyle difference. He wanted to fall asleep very early- like 9 or 10 at night. I wanted to, well, have a life. And that would be fine, I'm not one of those people who demands their SO accompany them everywhere. But I don't like also dealing with jealousy and resentment and so on because I want to go out with my friends once a month or whatever.
The majority of my friends are guys (always have been) and that started to become an issue. "Oh, you had lunch with X? Why?" "um, because we've been friends for like six years?" or "who is that in the picture with you on facebook." "That's Y, you've met him. We've been friends for more than a decade. That's his girlfriend in the picture with us." It never came to him saying he didn't want me to see my friends, but it was definitely becoming an issue.

I have always found that adding a piercing is an excellent way to recover from a breakup.

Sorry about the boyfriend. I'd have had the same issues. You still have plenty of time for that, believe me. I'm about to be 42 and met my husband when I was 35. He finally convinced me to marry him a couple of years ago. ;-)

Also, THIS IS NOT A MIDLIFE CRISIS!

you know... that is exactly the emotional process I went through when I split up with my last ex, right before the mister and I got together.

speaking strictly for myself, I think that it was one of the first well-thought out and adult relationship decisions I ever made, too bad I turned 40 before I got there!
...but then I always was described as a classic underachiever / "late bloomer" in school, whatever the hell that means. At any rate I've historically run a decade or more behind my peers on a bunch of other stuff; c.f. living on my own, taking charge of my personal finances, owning a car, buying a house, etc...
