So maybe you saw my question on AskMe about my Eurovision cake... [More:]

It turned out AMAZING.

I posted a how-to follow-up in the thread for future cake-makers!

Anyone else watch?

Favorite act: Moldova
Best song about apricots: Armenia
WTF?: Israel and the most depressing song ever
I watched it with Specklet and TheDonF (and an Irish friend who was rooting for Ireland).

Belarus - those wings, WTF? We all went "Whoa!" when they appeared.

My favourite act - Russia. The whole thing was so 1970s, the hairstyles, the song and particularly the bit at the end when the fan came on and he released the picture of his lost love. Man, it was so bad it was good.

It was Specklet's first Eurovision, which made it even more fun. She loved the song about the apricot stone.

Yeah, Israel. That flat, flat note near the end. We all flinched and went "Ugh!".

We all hated the winning song, and were universally delighted that the UK came last. If only they had got "Nul points" it would have been even better.

I love all the political voting. All the Balkan states vote for each other. All the former Soviet states vote for each other. Israel did not vote for Germany. France never votes for the UK. Turkey never votes for Greece...

It was the first time my daughter was up for the euro-finale, and we all watched a bit, but she was soon bored "Wait for it" I said. "Wait for it in this song..." and hop to 2:20 here, she said "woo, cool" then promptly went to sleep.

So, at least she had time to catch a little of the cheesy.

Personally, I only watched up until miss big voice and wind machine told us all that we're screwing up the earth, decided I'd root for her and then promptly changed the channel. I had a sleeping baby in my lap and the beau snoring away at the other end of the couch, I wasn't going to watch all that alone.

I keep forgetting it's "Belarus" in English, in Swedish it's "Vitryssland", literally "White russia". Trivia, that's a Swedish dude on the piano with the winged posse. His agent is from Belarus, or something.
