This is a random music thread. I recently learned of the band Dame Pa Matala on this week's Latino USA podcast. They blend politics with traditional Venezuelan instruments, salsa, reggae, and hip-hop. I've been digging 'em quite a bit. What random band have you discovered recently?[More:]Dame Pa Matala Linkage:

This weird dude, mainly thanks to BoingBoing. I was loving Die Antwoord, and when they posted a link to this video, it immediately got stuck in my head. You kind of have to ignore the big hat...but there's something about South African rap (or whatever you call this) that I really like.

Messer Chups - how can you not like a band led by a guy named Oleg Gitarkin ?

Somebody here on MeCha sent me a bunch of Messer Chups music a while ago, and it makes my day whenever any of it shows up on shuffle.

Messer Chups are fun as hell! Having Messer Chups on the MP3 player makes shuffle even more fun.

My recent obsessive music discovery is 60's psychedelic pop eccentric Pete Miller, who recorded under the name Big Boy Pete. I had heard the name before (I'm pretty sure Pete Townshend is a fan), but I saw Kelley Stoltz a few weeks ago opening for Echo & the Bunnymen and he raved about Big Boy Pete and did an awesome cover, which made me immediately seek him out. It's hard to describe his sound, but it reminds me of an oddball mix of the Move, Syd Barrett, the Creation, and Dukes of Stratosphear, with vocals that recall Reg Presley of the Troggs. If you like weird psychedelia with catchy hooks I'd recommend a little Big Boy Pete.

None. I discovered them all almost 10 years ago.
