I love my iPhone. A lot. [More:]I'm no Apple fanboy. You'd have to pay me to use a Mac. But I love my new iPhone with a passion I've felt for no gadget since Mattel Football II.

Just as a combination e-reader, mp3 player, and photo viewer, I would carry it with me everywhere. That you can make phone calls with it is just a cherry on the sundae. Then toss in a camera. And, my God, all the apps...

I fantasize about traveling back in time and showing it to myself in, say, 1982 - just to watch his head explode.

Just as a combination mp3 player, plus podcast player, I carry it with me everywhere.. that you can make phone calls with it is just cherry on a sundae.

5 years later can windows media player handle podcasts yet? :( I used to have to download and drag them into a playlist but with itunes+ipod it keeps track of where you were in the audio, which episodes have played, etc.

DITTO! I literally sleep with mine (I use Ambience). Damn thing never leaves my side, and I have often said that I would have it surgically grafted onto my body if I could.

And I am NOT an Apple fan either. The iPhone was just the most affordable replacement for my Blackberry after I killed it.

I feel the same way about my Droid, I feel nervous and uncomfortable when I don't have it with me.

Do you need to use iTunes for podcasts with the iPhone or can you just download them directly via 3G?

Not looking to start an Android vs. Iphone thing here, just curious how podcasts work on them.

Yeah, my partner gives me grief about the fact that I'm NEVER separated from my G1. It's replaced my old laptop and my MP3 player, plus there's Twitter. I'm checking MeCha right now from the train. Love it.

octothorpe, yeah the whole ipod-on-iphone thing is (very!) tightly coupled to the idea of a 'main itunes' it syncs to (like a regular ipod). so you can't get stuff on the fly like that.

When I think about it, my Droid is my music player, phone, camera, navigation system, Google Chat client, email client, browser, podcast client, alarm clock (got the bedside charger/stand), diet diary, etc. I don't really go for apps much, after six months I've spent a total of $3 on a single camera app, the default stuff works find for me.

Firas, interesting. I almost never connect the Droid to my computer unless I'm archiving some photos.

I have an iPad, and for all of the whinging about them one way or another, it is truly an awesome device for me. I spent a pile of time on airplanes, and it is so much better than trying to futz with a laptop on a plane. I managed to watch over seven hours of video and still had over 30% battery left. It is also great for poking at in bed before I want to do any internetting that involves interacting with other people.

I had an iPhone, but I didn't want to pay Softbank a thousand dollars for the privilege in Japan. It was pretty good, though. I barely used the camera, though.

I muddle through with a clunky dumbphone and an old iPod.

My sister (who is so savvy that she was a Zune early adopter) just got an iPhone. We were driving LA freeways and she was futzing with her phone telling me how slow the traffic was moving (according to her phone) when I could pretty much see how slow the traffic was moving because I was FREAKING DRIVING IN IT.

She drove for a bit, and then had to find out if the Lakers won so I used Safari with her phone, in a moving car, without my reading glasses, and finally found the result.

I don't hate them. . .but I can't see getting one and paying the internet bill. . .just yet.

My Droid is a happy thing. Cross-checking prices by going online while in a store is lovely, and GPS is pretty keen (when I understand "turn now" means "TURN NOW"). I don't give much stock in its music playing capabilities, primarily because the storage capacity is still mysterious to me, and I have to delete things to add new music to my iPod Classic.

I was hesitant about the whole "smart phone" thing, and I was annoyed at the Data Plan price, too. Luckily, I get a discount on the data plan thanks to working for a big enough company/entity. The price did jump, but not enough that I'm annoyed. Plus I use it all the friggin' time, so I can't complain. And my wife and I dropped Cable TV, so that's a significant savings, which makes me annoyed/sad that I didn't do so sooner.

Although I don't have a need for an iPhone or Droid (or any similar gadget) the technology is totally amazing and wonderful.

Like Joe Beese said - if someone had shown me something like that in 1982 (or even 1992), I'd have freaked the fuck out.

I love my iPod Touch. I just got Fly Kiwi Fly and played it through in 2 days. And it sure as heck beats carrying my laptop to the hospital every day (where my mom's currently at). So much lighter.

The GPS and maps capability ALONE has gotten me un-lost in San Francisco (uh, why is this subway car going above ground??), Boston (there has to be a way to jump this fence), and yes even my current home town.

Yeah, I feel naked without my iPhone. My only current annoyance is that the bluetooth seems to have died, just when I get a new laptop with bluetooth! Maybe I'm just doing it wrong, though...
