25 April 2010

new Doctor Who episode (spoilers possible I guess) [More:]

Wowzers. This episode was just fantastic teevee. I hope part two is not a let-down. These Weeping Angel episodes remind me of some of the early X-Files episodes (in creepiness, if nothing else).

I totally want a Weeping Angel look-alike for my garden. I'll put it between some Japanese maples with a bench in front of it. I just need to figure out some way to quietly move it at will...

Anywho, four episodes in and I think I like the new Doctor pretty well.
I'll comment and bow out -- I only just watched last week's.

I'm enjoying the new series/season well enough. "The Eleventh Hour" had some nice touches and two classic Who lines: "I'm the Doctor. I'm worse than everybody's aunt." and "I most definitely am a madman with a box." And "Basically, run." was maybe just a tiny bit much.

Smith's portrayal is a great deal more prickly and distant and sometimes weird, which is good given that one of Tennant's hallmarks was being almost annoyingly constantly winning. Not sure that his performance always has the depth that both previous incarnations brought to the character.

Gillan's Amy is a terrific companion so far (I miss the policewoman-in-nylons costume, though -- it could have led to so many police box jokes.) There's a real (deliberate, for a companion) complexity to her character that Gillan embodies quite well. Looking forward to more.

New TARDIS set, meh. New Who theme, meh. Both could grow on me, I suppose.

Can't wait for the weeping angels, tho. And Riversong.

I'm liking the new Who, too. It's taking a bit to get used to with so much being "new" but I think this series will turn out fun.

These angles really creep me out. I loved their first appearance a couple years ago and this episode is not disappointing. There is just something very real about monsters coming for you the moment you look away. You always only see them coming from the corner of your eye and then BAM!

[SPOILERS]

I love that this means the Weeping Angels are in our televisions now!

Hey, if you know anyone who watched it on their computer, don't forget to change their screensaver or desktop background...

I have only seen the first 2 episodes for this season, so far it's ok. Smith has a tough job to win me over, I am seriously swoony over Tennant as the Doctor. I can't get over the fact that Smith feels too young for the part. The new theme is totally blah, and the set is a bit too old school Who for me (I keep waiting for part of it to fall over). The new companion is adorable and the best part of the show for me so far. Some of the writing feels a bit corny (yeah yeah, I know, its Doctor Who, what do I expect), but I think the potential is there for it all to come together after a few more episodes.

Amelia is probably going to be the most interesting companion the Doctor has had since the resurrection of the show. I have always been rather fond of redheads anyway though so admittedly she could be a pretty boring character and I'd still like her.

I do not like the new opening at all but I'll get used to it I guess.

Just watched the episode. Great, great. I am glad I did not wait until later tonight to watch it as I would've spooked myself right out!

I am loving all things in this incarnation EXCEPT the new arrangement of the theme song. I think it is terrible.

Oh Typewriter, that is so funny! "They Quiiiit!" *sigh*

It's annoying that we in the US have to wait three weeks after the UK to watch these.

Well, theoretically you have to wait three weeks. I'm in Canada and I grab each new episode when the bits have barely settled.

I can't hear the theme song without thinking of Muse.
