I've been hungry, lost, alone. Days without food. It does something deep down.My brain stopped working the normal way. It's frightening what I saw in myself, what I could have been capable of doing for a meal.

But I've been there and I KNOW that I could out-last the "crazy" hunger makes in us. I know I wouldn't go out and kill for food but I also know I would fight to defend/keep my food for myself or others. Especially if my or my ward's mortality was at stake and there was no other solution but to defend to the death.

So, that's my personal experience.

Also, I heard an NPR report about the 11 billion needed to "fix" Haiti. About 4 billion has been raised and the rest will come over the next so many years.

There is considerable effort being made internationally to make restoration work and to combat the horrible corruption that exists there. Haiti, has never been a human paradise. I think steps are being taken to change that for the better now. I hope it works. Only time will tell.

Also, Haiti . . . they have zombies and not the good kind.

Haiti has long been a place with a lot of suffering but it has also long been a place of massively overblown news copy. Also, the rural country has always been a world away from Port-au-Prince.

"Would I be able to fight for a bag of wheat just so that my family is able to not go hungry for the day" Yeah, I would be able to kill to save my children.

Not to make light of Haiti's situation; but should widespread distopia ever come to visit the States, there would be a great deal of 2nd ammendment action going on across the land regarding the concept of ownership and family protection.

I view foodstuffs (meat, vegetables, fruits) as products that are from rural areas and shipped into the cities. Baring the Earth opening up and swallowing all the crops and livestock; I don't think that supply chain process changed much.

Cities also need more sewage treatment and water processing than rural areas (no well to drink from, nowhere to dig a hole for waste), so I'll agree that the rural parts of Haiti probably did not change too very much because they were probably functioning before the earthquake the same way they were immediately after.

Yup, me too. I doubt that I would even hesitate.

As for such incidents occurring in the US... I do not own a gun because I figure if I ever need one, I will walk up to someone in the street and pry one out of their cold, dead hand.
