Sorry guys, but I find the #cashgordon Twitter saga hilarious Originally, the centre-right UK Conservative Party put up a site called Cash Gordon, attacking the ruling Labour Party's links with the unions. It was a social media site, offering "points" for helping their campaign.

The problem: they set it up so that any Twitter message containing the hashtag #cashgordon appeared on the site's front page.[More:]

First problem: lots of people start using the #cashgordon tag to start putting anti-Conservative slogans on their website.

Second problem: it's pointed out that the website is created and shared with other right-wing campaigns in the US, which are far more extreme than the British Conservative Party would be happy with.

Third problem: the website doesn't filter or protect the tweet text at all. So by putting simple code inside a <script> tag in the tweet, you can redirect the website to porn sites, shock sites, opposing party sites or do infinite loops of pop-up messages, or anything you like.

So as I'm typing this, they've taken it down and repointed the http://cash-gordon.com url at their main website.

They'll probably fix it and bring it back eventually, but I'm practically killing myself trying not to laugh out loud here.
I've been snickering about this since TheDonF brought it to my attention. Maroons.
