what protein bar or shake is the least gross? [More:]I am a fan of real food and I think bar and shake foods are gross. However, since I started lifting weights I have been super hungry after I work out, and am also trying to eat more protein in order to get as big as the incredible hulk (almost).

Basically, I can't always go home and eat some apple and peanut butter or a sandwich, and I'd love to keep something besides trail mix in my car. Any recommendations for edible products that will meet my needs?
I like Clif bars pretty well. And I love Bumble Bars, though they're probably an acquired taste if you don't already like birdseed.

Clif Peanut Butter Bars are pretty good.

The Zone bars were . . . inoffensive.

Ah man, I have been eating Clif bars for breakfast recently and they taste great. I'm talking about their base bar.

I also like the Clif Mojo bars a lot--if you like sweet and salty, they're a good choice. And Clif Bar has some caffeinated options, if that floats your boat.

Beef jerky is pretty protein heavy. Plus beef jerky has the 'yeah, you've got a cool car or truck, yeah. But I'm here in traffic too; and I am chewing on a piece of beef jerky. Wish you had beef jerky too, don't you' factor.

Nuts are protein heavy and lots of calories too.

None of them, in my opinion. They all taste like dry sawdust.

Both bananas and beer come in easy packages.

Never had a bar that wasn't nasty. I love Isopure Dutch Chocolate protein powder though.

Clif bars are pretty tasty, but they're cake, basically. How about getting a carton of milk or chocolate milk as you leave and keeping some nuts in your car?

I got into Luna (Clif for women, lower calorie) bars when I was working out a lot and keeping it pretty strictly low carb. I knew it had been an acquired taste even then but I was so desperate for sweetness and crunch that I became pretty heavily dependent on them.

I tried one again recently after not having them for years and yeah, god, that shit is disgusting. I can still see how I'd become obsessed with them again easily if I was being super strictly low carb, but when I'm eating normal food, yeah, it's disgusting. It tastes like SCIENCE! (which is not so good as a flavor).

Such a good point: SCIENCE! is not delicious.

I like the jerky idea. I don't eat red meat - maybe I can get fish or soy jerky though - I imagine it keeps forever. Nuts are good too - but sometimes they make my jaw hurt! I guess that's too many nuts.

I'll try Clif Bar Original Flavor and see if I can tolerate it. And Bumble Bars are new to me - so I should try that too.

Thanks folks!

PS. YOU CAN'T FOOL ME! BEER IS NOT HIGH PROTEIN!

serazin, here in the Wild West (okay, Colorado) there is plenty of turkey and ostrich jerky to be had.

OK, I just had to run to the store for last-minute dinner ingredients and picked up clif bars (original peanut and mojo) and seitan jerky. The other suggestions weren't there, so I'll try these out first.

Might not be a while driving thing; but when I was doing protein type shakes in the past the ingredient list for the weight watchers / meal replacement / diet shakes was almost exactly the same as the much much higher priced BeefMasterCake 4000v.2A w/mondo-pulpo extract + extra boOost! bodybuilder type GNC stuff.

Powder mix Slim-fast was my workout drink back in the day.

But hefting those enormous BeefMasterCake4000 cans has got to be good for my physique, right?

This is what I eat when going on super long (40 miles +) bike rides:

Clif Bar, specifically the chocolate mint. Tastes like a Thin Mint. I also like the Clif Mojo PB+Pretzel one, which is nice and salty for when I get tired of all the sweet options.

I'm also a fan of string cheese and/or Laughing Cow Mini Babybel cheeses, and large handfuls of mixed nuts.

I've also heard that chocolate milk is like the perfect after-workout drink.

TURKEY JERKY. It was invented by Jesus, I'm pretty sure. Unless you consider turkey to be red meat, in which case never mind.

The Chocolate Chip Clif Bar is delicious. It tastes almost like a real chocolate chip cookie.

Just tried a Mojo bar - it was actually delicious! Although I recognize I was having one of those post-work out, everything tastes fucking FANTASTIC moments which probably exaggerated its awesomeness.
