Hope me, technically-inclined bunnies! A PC-related question:[More:]

I downloaded the book-layout tool from Blurb.com. A friend has used them to print a photo book, and I liked the result, so I want to try it.

When I try to run the layout tool (called "BookSmart") I get this error (screenshot).

The fact that the error says it's a "Microsoft Visual C++" error makes me wonder if the problem is with my setup- is this program supposed to run on Vista? (I run XP.) Their page SAYS it runs on XP, but I Googled around a bit and didn't find any reference to this error.

It's not a huge thing if I can't get it to work, but I thought I'd run it by y'all since you're such a savvy bunch.
Wow that's low level. Looks like the program was trying to make some checks that failed and is a bit sloppily made so that level of error checking is exposed to you like you're the programmer. Is this before you do anything at all?

Looks like it's a common Java error. Update that and try again. You may need to remove TrueType fonts as that thread suggests, but I would personally start with the most current version of Java and go from there.

If BitterOldPunk's suggestion doesn't work I suggest you climb into the Jefferies Tube for a closer investigation.
