Hey Kids! It's time for another episode of FUN! FACTS! [More:]

Fun! Fact!: Did you know that you can use food stamps to purchase a bow and arrow? (But only in rural Alaska?)

It's true.

Fun fact: "In rural Alaska" is not a popular add-on to fortune cookie fortunes.

Fun fact: Absinthe makes an excellent substitute for pastis in a Sazerac cocktail.

It also makes for interesting conversational gambits, to wit:

Me: Here's your Sazerac.

Her: What's in it?

Me: Mostly whiskey, bitters, simple syrup and absinthe.

Her (recoiling in horror): Gaaah! That stuff is supposed to make you crazy and depraved!!!

Me (bemused): There's a problem with that?

(But only in rural Alaska?)

Probably because one would use it for subsistence hunting.

Fun fact: If you squeeze an orange peel next to a lighted match, it makes the flame spark.

Fun fact: If you have a brimful glass of milk, and a glass of the same size brimful with popped popcorn, you can put all the popcorn into the milk and the milk will not run over.

This fun fact is useless without visual evidence, sister!

Fun flammable fact: Stick a dry roasted peanut on a needle, light the edge on fire; it will burn for about 5 minutes.

Hehheh. Well, it worked when I tried it when I was a kid, but that was before internet video.

Fun Fact: A Dorito burns like a mofo. Here is MeCha's very own Lassie demonstrating for us.

JanetLand, did you learn that popcorn-milk thing from Johnny Tremain or Little House on the Prairie or some similar olde-tymie children's book? I have one of those funny hazy-clear memories of reading that and trying it out at the next popcorn opportunity (popcorntunity), much to the annoyance of my tidy parents.

As an Alaskan, I'd never heard that, but then again I've never been on food stamps and my town is classified as urban Alaska.

I remember as a child reading about popcorn/milk cereal from some book about early colonial America. My mother was not amused but let me try it anyway.

Fun fact: Bears can climb over chain-link fences quite readily when they need to.

Yep. The popcorn/milk thing is in Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Fun fact: I was trying to think of famous lesbians yesterday (as in, famous to mainstream people) and all I could come up with were basketball players and comedians. We're not just sporty, we're funny!

Damn. I could use a bow. And some food stamps.

Fun Fact: Archery is much more fun when you have more than one arrow. Otherwise, it's just a lot of walking with brief interruptions.

Fun Fact: Squeezing an orange peel next to a lit match is most fun when you do it over a glass filled will with ice, 1.5 oz of Rye, .75 oz of sweet vermouth, and two good dashes of bitters.
