03 January 2010

There is a MetaChat group on FB. [More:]And it didn't have an admin. So all I had to do was click the little "become admin" button and NOW I AM IN CHARGE!!!

Things are going to change, and those of you who scorned and mocked me will come to rue that day. SUCK IT H8ERS, FROM THIS POINT FORWARD YOU ALL ANSWER TO ME!!!

Everyone should prepare for a full inspection in the nearest future (may include, at my sole discretion, a full cavity search).
You da man, Meatbomb! Tell 'em who's in charge!

Still seems to say "There are no admins left in this group!"...

For that matter, there are no admins right, either. Par for the course.

Please don't hurt me.

"the button, it does nothink." - Much like many administrators I have known.

Can't touch me -- not on facebook anymore.

Ugh. I just confirmed a high school acquaintance and my newsfeed was flooded with some dumb ass game he plays.

Ardiril, you can usually hide game applications if you hover over the post and click the "Hide" button that will appear on the right of the post.

Don't worry, JanetLand, I have decreed that my scope of authority includes retroactively any Mechatizen has ever been on Facebook. I would hate for you to feel left out of any cavity searches or similar inspection and control procedures.

Facebook will one day kill MetaFilter, MetaChat, and everyone you love. I will not join this thing.

I can't see that happening CC, but I am an optimist of the first order. Actually, that's a lie, but I still can't see FB taking over. It does stuff, but I find it is WAY more handy for keeping it real with LOCAL friends, and prefer the internets for keeping in touch, so to speak, with you NON-LOCAL friends. I wish I'd called the two kinds of friends REAL/UNREAL because those are both sort of compliments in their own way. Also, I realize now I could have simply edited what I'd typed.

Sorry, the cold is making me insane. "All work and no play makes Jack something something"

There are certain things I like about Facebook. It's ubiquity is one of them. There are very few people I know in my day to day life who don't use it. It's a great shorthand for keeping in touch with people.

But this is also one of the drawbacks.

True story: my brother went to the hospital to pick up a body and a nurse (who he doesn't know) told him that his wife had just put the kids to bed. But that's not the stuff I'm leery of.

My beliefs are radically different than the ultra-conservative community that I live in. I've wanted to join a few times just to slap down friends who spout GOP talking points as fact without links or support.

I keep up with people through my wife's Facebook, and frankly, that's as close as I like to get. If I had to "friend" all of the people I never liked in high school (and I would, because they hunt you down like prey and get offended if you don't add them--I've seen it happen to others) then I wouldn't be able to be myself.

A quick google search of my name will like me to here and other places online, but that's not as easy as seeing it all with a click.

So...I'll join whatever comes after Facebook. Whatever builds on the idea of linking likeminded people together, but doesn't have as many games and useless polls.

I am afraid that Facebook splinters good communities like this one and MeFi (I've seen it happening with Twitter, but I'm just as guilty as the next guy there), but I hope MeCha and MeFi ride out Facebook like it rode out MySpace and LiveJournal and whatever else came along in those years.

Christ, I sound like a doddering old fart.

Actually, you sound completely reasonable. How shocking! Wait'll I tell facebook!
