So I bought a bottle of Lambic Beer for NYE as I always do (it has a cork you can pop, is a great drink and Champagne starts to cost way too much before I start liking it) but about two hours ago I thought to myself; I don't really want to drink a large beer at midnight I pretty much want to raise a glass and then shortly retire. So I popped that cork and drank it then. At the magic hour will instead just have some single malt whisky. Clearly though I'm getting old.

The neighbors setting off fireworks helped. They were launching real, professional-grade fireworks. I had to stay awake in case someone yelled that they had lost a finger and required medical assistance.

Also, I made endive leaves filled with lemon cream and topped with salmon caviar. Those were worth staying awake for, too.
