Breathtaking T.V. Today I was watching two shows (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and Cowboy Beebop) that I love because of the stories they tell and the way they are told.[More:]

I hold my breath at important moments, when characters die I cry, and my whole being is concentrated on what is happening. When the end arrives I just sit and think "wow".

Do you guys have some favorite shows that give you these moments?
Maybe cause it happened a very troubled time in my life, but start the Prom scene from Prom and I will be a little vaklempt by the end.

Let me be the first to predictably say "The Wire".

Especially resonating because a decent amount was shot in my neighborhood when I lived there. (yes, I lived in a shitty part of the city. West side!)

ER frequently used to affect me that way. The episode with Ray Liotta, I cried for ages after the closing credits.

Gaspode, dammit, you're right, yet again. The Wire. Predictably. Jesus Moishe, is that show ever good. 'Pode, you lived in the Western? Man, what I wouldn't do to run into McNulty while he is walking his beat in the Western.

Oh man, The Wire "Does my hair look alright?" Haunting.

We're just starting to watch The Wire and aren't really getting sucked into it. We watched the first two DVDs (five episodes) and thought it was sort of "meh". We were big fans of Homicide but so far The Wire hasn't done much. Does it get better?

Millenium is like that for me (season 2 is fantastic). I'm still pissed at Fox for canceling it. The last scene of season 3 makes me cry all the time.

Parts of The Wire and there's even a few parts of Buffy that get me every damn time.

Octothorpe, i wasn't taken with The Wire right away either and was wondering what the big deal was. I let it grow on me and now i have some amount of indignant rage about big let downs in season five. It's still fairly recent, with me with just one go round.
I can't think of anything current that has me enraptured, but i think it's more me. There's no big Six Feet Under event tv on right now for me. Better Off Ted is pretty funny, though, the first season.

I felt that way about "Wonderfalls".

The scene in Buffy where she and Riley are sitting across from eachother on at the end of Hush, neither knowing how to start. Also in Buffy, that Christmas episode where it starts to snow in So. Cal. rather than the sun rising thereby Angel does not get toasted.

(Best line in Wonderfalls - hands down -)

*talking to a plastic monkey)

"Are you God? Are you the devil? If you don't say anything I'm gonna assume devil."

*beat*

"Oh god ...I'm a crazy person."
