How do like your roast beef sammich? [More:]

We've got some lovely leftover roast rolled sirloin, and a loaf of fresh home made bread. As someone who was vegetarian for most of her life, I really don't know what makes for an awesome roast beef sammich. I'm thinking some horseradish mayo, but other than that, I've no idea.

Hot? Cold? Toast? Tomato? Cheddar? Help me, oh wise bunnies.
I prefer to keep things simple, with just some butter to keep the meat from falling off the bread.

Toasted roll, grilled onions, slice of cheese on top melted under the broiler.

There isn't just one way, any more than there's just one kind of homemade bread. I certainly wouldn't kick horseradish mayo out of bread.

I like it cold with crunchy lettuce and tomato sliced on it, and with Miracle Whip (a sweetened mayonnaise). Maybe sliced pickles. Rather boring and pedestrian, I know, but it's what I like...

I like triple decker sandwiches, and I like symmetry. I cut on a diagonal. Also those thin cucumber slices lightly pickled in vinegar, salt, and sugar? More, please.

As Obscure says, there lots of ways to enjoy it. But I would most likely opt for cold, sliced think on white bread (rolls and rye aren't my optimum beef sammich) with a little horseradish and maybe some thin sliced red onion. Mmmmmm....now I think I have to get some roast beef.

Mustard and/or horseradish and a slice of onion . Chilled.

Beef sliced very thinly, layered over caramelised onions, sprinkled with grated cheese in a ciabatta roll, wrap in foil and put it in the oven for five minutes.

I used to do a simple bread, horseradish, sliced roast beef, your basic Lion's Choice meal, but when I started working at Bread Co/Panera, I discovered their awesome Asiago Roast Beef, which is asiago bread, roast beef, lettuce, tomato, red onions, and some sort of spicy mayo that escapes me at the moment (it's been almost two years).

It's a good sandwich. Man, I wish Panera would open a store in downtown Seattle...

i lovvvvvvve the taste of roasted beed on its own . so just some good bread, butter, cracked black pepper and salt, and i'm a happy boy

I don't know how widely available it is but this stuff was the best thing to ever happen to my sandwiches. The asiago version is equally wonderful.

I don't eat beef anymore but back when I was the go to guy in the family for making roast beast sandwiches. The two things that really made them stand out was the use of horseradish (the real undiluted paste) and BBQ sauce. Everything else can be too your taste (though don't overload) but the key was to put a thinly spread layer of the BBQ sauce directly on the beef and then put a layer of lettuce over it to keep the bread from being soggy. I'd always put the horseradish on the top slice of bread along with whatever other sauce is called for. Usually mustard of various stripes as I'm not a fan of mayo. But of course plenty of people asked for mayo.

Ill have what rollick's having. Oh, and some potato chips, please.

I cannot even remember the last time I had a roast beef sandwich. I might have to make a trip to the deli.

Grilled/sauteed onions, provolone or swiss, roll.

Au jus. That is the key. Make it a French dip. Nom.

I like horseradish mayo, lettuce, and tomato.

I also love leftover cold roast beef or steak on regular sandwich bread with yellow or spicy mustard only.

Grilled onions and melter provolone sound delicious. You could make French Dips.

For me, it's roast beef, sliced pickles (IN the sammich, not beside it!) and sharp cheddar. Maybe some slivers of red onion for more crunch. nothing mayo-like if it's good bread.

I just recovered from a brief but GRAR-y migraine, and suddenly realize that I haven't eaten since last night. I am ravenously in need of eleventy roast beef sandwiches.

In other words: Specklet, I'll be right over.

Cold: roast beef, fresh mozzarella, and pesto. So, so good.

Hot: roast beef open faced on bread and smothered in brown gravy, with mashed potatoes. Also excellent.

Cold. Sourdough bread. A scraping of margarine and a little bit of salt.
