I have discovered the joy that is golumpkies! Let me share.[More:]

- Dice a yellow onion. Wipe eyes.
- De-skin those four uncooked pork and leek sausages you were wondering what you were going to do with and add them to the onion.
- Sprinkle liberally with dried sage. (Note that it's really too bad the sage plant in the window box doesn't have much foliage on it.) Add lots of fresh-ground black pepper and a little salt.
- Add about a cup of the brown rice your husband cooked earlier.
- Add an egg.
- Moosh. Mooshmoosh.
- Blanch 12 or 14 good-sized cabbage leaves in salted water and drain. Savoy cabbage totally rocks for this.
- Put 2 or 3 tablespoons' worth of the sausage goodness in the middle of a cabbage leaf, fold into a tidy packet, and secure with a toothpick. (In the UK toothpicks are called cocktail sticks, which is silly because they are too short to go in a cocktail and besides, who wants a sharp stick of wood in your drink?)
- Have a heated argument with your husband about how the water heater works. Mutter to yourself as you
- Put all the pretty packets into a big skillet and slop on 3 or 4 cups of the tomato sauce you made last week.
- Cover and simmer gently for 40 minutes.
- NOM. (Don't forget to remove the toothpicks.)
Oh yeah, this kind of stuffed cabbage was a staple of my youth. I had forgotten about them. My mom learned the recipe from my dad's mom, along with instructions to make enough for her growing boys to have a second and then a third helping. So tasty.

I love these. In the summer I do the same with leaves from our grapes.

I don't like them tomato-y, rather let them cook in a pot with broth and sauerkraut. This is a mouth-watering image search. I mean, look at this. Gee whiz. So much delicious fat all in one place. It's heartwarming. Among other things it does to the heart.

Sounds yummy. For me, they're cocktail sticks because you stick them into small items of food that might be served with cocktails, such as cheese & pineapple, or little sausages (I know, very seventies). We have toothpicks here too ;)

I grew up Polish, but hated all things cabbage. I used to peel the cabbage off and eat the meat inside. My family just used ground beef.

That's standard wedding food around here. Can't get married without stuffed cabbage, baked zita and kielbasi.
