Monday three-point [More:]

1. I'm going to ask for a raise today, probably in the next 25 minutes. Wish me luck. It would be dependent on getting a particular grant, and my job duties would increase. By how much? I'm not sure how to estimate that. I'm a little worried about either undercutting or over-estimating. Hopefully my boss will make the first offer, since I put the seed in her head about it last week. Otherwise I'm thinking of asking for a 15% increase, and expecting her to be freaked out by that. If you have any suggestions, lemme know.

2. I have four patches of poison ivy of unknown provenance on my belly and back. They hurt now more than they itch, and I'm annoyed that I can't figure out how I got exposed.

3. I forgot what three was for.
~*raise-getting vibes*~ Unfortunately no advice since I'm the raise-killer in our department from last year.

1. I'm starting to get a wee bit excited about school. Registration for my term opens today, but I haven't heard if I'm going to be able to transfer credits in for one of the classes that I'm supposed to take, so I'm going to wait until I know about that before I register.

2. I really don't feel like going through more boxes today, but I know that I should keep up with my 3 per day goal in order to at have at least the first sort done by PA time.

3. I think that my latest batch of funk is starting to dissipate. My appetite is still quite a bit wonky, but I made a big batch of noodles+sauce+chicken last night and tonight I need to make carrots. Mmmm, delicious home-cooked food. (Whole wheat penne+Prego Roasted Garlic & Herb+chicken cut up and cooked in olive oil with cinnamon carrots is the name of the game this week. It's fairly healthy, damnit.) Of course, this means I should be especially careful and make sure that I don't swing too far in the other direction. It's going to be a tense couple of weeks.

1. I made good mushroom pasta with cream sauce last night and brought it in to eat at lunch but I forgot my little tub of parmesan.

2. I had a really fun weekend - my mom was in town, saw a bunch of cousins, and had a good time at Halloween with the new Guy.

3. I am so busy now with work and social plans- looks like I don't have free time til next Thurs night.

best of luck with the raise!! Can't figure out the time zones - have you asked yet?

1. Have been been given a lot of (too much?) responsibility in my teaching job and am feeling inexperienced and uncertain. However, have had my choices vindicated by a much more experienced colleague who has checked how I'm marking students' work, so am feeling pleased today.

2. Heading to the super-cheap supermarket (Aldi) shortly, sharpening elbows in preparation.

3. Perpetually hungry for the last couple of days.

1. Back at work for the first time in 2.5 weeks, which is the longest I've ever missed work. (Not that I missed it much.)

2. I feel like I missed Halloween this year. Didn't get to visit Stewriffic, didn't get to go to any kind of Halloween celebrations, and now it's November. Bleah.*

3. Only five days till BitterOldPunk gets into town for a visit and a football game! (Which he's attending with my partner, since they're both Falcons fans.)

*But a huge thanks to everybody who send well-wishes and moral support during my mom's recent hospitalization, whether here, in email, on Twitter, etc. You helped keep me sane, and Mom's doing much better now.

1. After how craptastic last week was and how decent this weekend was, I'm looking forward to a drama-free week!

2. Hopefully going to see a movie on Wednesday night for free and then I get to write a review of it to put on the website Thursday morning. Go, go, Gadget Movie Reviewer!

3. Maria Ho and Tiffany Michelle got eliminated from "The Amazing Race" last night, which means that my poker-blogging/recapping gig is over. However, it was such a great experience and I may have gotten a few more MovieMakeout.com readers out of it, so that's awesome!

amro: definitely the pretty stamps, if it's not a hardship to do so.

1. Just majorly bit into my viola savings in order to get plane ticket for Thanksgiving. It makes mom and sister very happy. Maybe I can recoup some of it by allowing myself to get bumped on the flight home?

2. Getting a bit of heartburn from Halloween candy. Blech.

3. Had a nice long talk with a married friend. He bitched about being married. I bitched about being single. He couldn't believe I was complaining about having too many craft projects to work on at once; I couldn't believe he was complaining about his kid being a smart-ass 12 year old. It was a wonderful talk; a good reminder that I should be happy with the life I have made for myself, should be proud of my accomplishments.

oh typewriter, i'm so sorry.

So the meeting passed without a good opening to ask for the raise. As we discuss the budget further over the next month or so, there will be more opportunities. That's fine, because it will give me a better idea of how much extra work this new project would be.

1. Shook off what felt like the start of bronchitis (at least I hope so).

2. At the manager's request today had to organise cards/flowers for two team memmbers' birthdays, before the celebration lunch for them, all the time feeling slightly (well, okay, very) miffed because when I had a big birthday a few months back there was no office celebration/flowers.

3. Of course, my pettiness is completely put into perspective by the picture of typewriter's beautiful cat, who just wanted to look out of the window on the last morning of his life. Shit, I'm crying now.

1. Registered for classes over the weekend. A computer glitch kept me from being able to get two of them which I needed, which worried me greatly since once was creative writing, a class I needed to graduate. Fortunately the registrar was able to force me in today.

2. I managed to finish all the homework I was assigned today due wednesday in the library this afternoon, so I'm feeling pretty productive.

3. been playing a lot of Halo with my roommate lately. He's bored since he has no working computer at the moment.

1. Broke and fixed the kitchen tap today. To be fair to myself, it was technically already broken (leaking) before I did anything, but I did break it even worse trying to disassemble it. I did some other stupid things as well, like trying to temporarily cap the pipes with plastic bottle caps so that I could still use the bathroom tap (this plan failed horribly). Then I went and bought and installed a new tap and everything was fine again.

2. Despite this, I still managed to write down a few ideas for a paper I'm working on. Yay me.

3. Had bean and pasta soup for lunch, but now my stomach is acting weird, so maybe warming it up again (I made it on Saturday and it was the second time to warm it up) wasn't such a great idea after all.

Also, ((typewriter))

Thank you all.

Here is a story about my cat. I was once learning lines for two shows in rep, one of them being a one-person hip-hop, spoken word show. I was running them and running them, and some of the rhymes and 'cool' text was just not sinking in. In the end, in an attempt to focus, I laid down on my then-cement floor of my unfinished basement, and ran the lines with the lights off. By then, it was 2 in the morning, with rehearsal at 10 the next day. I tried to run them one more time, but became frustrated at my overworked brain and burst into tears. I had not started crying for maybe 30 seconds, when my cat came bounding down the stairs. He made his way to me, and came and sat on my chest. This, of course, calmed me down. Thinking I was calm enough to try one last time, I started to run the lines again. As soon as I started to speak, he placed his paw on my lips. I moved it out of the way and started again. He placed his other paw on my lips. This went back and forth, with me starting to speak, and him stopping me, until he had both paws on my mouth. Finally, I got the message loud and clear. I picked up my cat and we went upstairs to bed. I would tackle the lines another day. No more would be useful that night. How he knew that, or why he wanted me to stop, I don't know. He was just that kind of cat.

1. Recent bloodwork was positive for gout and the onset of liver degradation as well as a spike in cholesterol and triglycerides. The gout and liver problems could be a result of all my meds, but the cholesterol and triglyceride spike is a bit of a mystery. I keep a food journal and I fasted a full 12 hours. Anyway, just more hassle but nothing to really worry about. I still have a decent chance of seeing 70.

Interestingly, my age and disability places me in the lowest priority for receiving an H1N1 vaccination or any other flu vaccination. Apparently I'm too far gone for the vaccines to do much benefit. Oh, well. Saves me a copayment and a trip to Walgreens.

2. I started fighting my insomnia with forced morning wake-ups at 7 am 7 days/week. The time change helped a lot. This seems to be the only method with near universal agreement.

3. I discovered I should have my long term disability overpayment paid off in 3 1/2 years, 3 years before I had estimated.

(((typewriter)))What an awesome portrait of your cat. I am so sorry. I know the pain.

1. A lot of bad around here: My brother's Mom-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer. She's in her 70's, and ignored the lumps for quite some time. She has an appointment with a surgeon today. Such a nice lady, too. I hate cancer.

2. New manager at work in my department was driving me up the wall today. Everything I did was "wrong"; I finally blew up and told him to get off my back.

3. On a good note: I have a date!

1. It was a totally unproductive day at work - there was nothing on my schedule so I stared at the new computer setup all day trying to decide whether it was any good.

2. It's starting to finally get cooler out and I'm just starting to realize I don't have the work wardrobe to cope.

3. Henceforth I reserve the right to be suspicious of any food whose manufacture involves the use of microorganisms and not killing them afterwards. But Seal Point triple cream brie = sooooo tasty.

1. typewriter, I took a break from my internets communities for a few days so missed what was up with your beautiful kitteh. I'm so sorry. The photo is beautiful, and the story made me cry for you both. Big huge hugs to you.

2. Been strangely discombobulated for the past few days. Can't put my finger on what's wrong, just slightly off centre. It's pissing me off.

3. Have made serious progress on Xmas knitting, and so taught myself stranded colourwork by making the best. Tea cozy. Evar. I am inordinately pleased with this thing.

3a. Really really hate that I have still not seen my first ever niece, who was born in March. Can't leave the US until the immigration stuff is done, so she'll be over a year old before I can get there. Am knitting a ridiculous number of things for her to compensate.

Sorry about your beautiful kitty, typewriter.

1. I have the day off tomorrow- third four day work week in a row, booo. Everybody has off for Election Day (lamest holiday EVER- I don't need a whole day to vote), and my boss canceled coming in tomorrow at the last minute due to a family emergency, leaving me with no way in. Clearly, the family emergency is the bigger tragedy, but I will still complain.

2. I will use my day off to complete all the errands that have been hanging over my head for weeks, including a trip to the Apple Store Genius Bar for iPod help. Plus voting and the gym.

3. Polenta and black beans for dinner. Yum yum! I need to make polenta more often.

Good cat. I can say no more or no less. There's nothing nobler than a pet.

1) This weekend we slaughter around 170 birds. I am currently tripping my shit because we haven't got all our ducks (no pun intended) in a row with regards to inspection and, if it gets pushed back another week, the extra feed puts us *way* into the red. I don't begrudge the regulation and inspection, but the lead time frustrates me. Also the fact that, if things go well, we're getting a setup that's vastly better, cleaner, and safer than what we started with that won't be compliant with our permit because we didn't register it soon enough. The upside is that Washington state grants her inspectors much discretion and I hear good things about our inspector.

2) I'm also trying to head 130 miles north to buy a mobile processing facility before thursday. I'm terrified I don't have a big enough truck and that the trailer is going to push me off the road.

3) The same week my unemployment ran out I got a call from an old PM of mine to come in for some freelance work. Prior to this, I was planning on spending my off-season working for the USPS or UPS for the holiday rush or washing dishes but instead I get to make good money working on high profile, public facing websites. I hate the work but I love the challenge and I love the people I work with. How lucky is that?
