We used to smoke clove cigarettes in high school, and I think I remember calling them "bidis." They must have said that on the box somewhere.

The smell of clove cigarettes still transports me instantly to the late 1980s.

I guess they now sell cloves here as mini cigars, but they're still basically the same thing. Except you now only get 12 djarum blacks in a pack instead of 20.

Bidis are an Indian cigarette and aren't the same as the Indonesian kretek. A comparison.

I discovered that song earlier this year and I like it too. It's very cheeky, here's a translation. She's like light your beedi off my chest/heart and the dude is like "it's so cold get someone's blanket, get fire from your neighbour's stove." And I was like wait is there a double meaning there (there is I suppose.)
