Well, my hand is better but I've caught Convention Flu and not even my Power Animal (A small stuffed donkey named Donkey Tiberius Donkey, he sounds like The Dude) can comfort me. I am in a howling vortex of mucus and reading all about cholera outbreaks in the 1860s. Woe. Alas. Etc.

James K. Polk died of cholera on his farewell tour, just after the end of his first term (he did not run for a second). He likely got it in New Orleans but died upriver in Tennessee or Kentucky.

What's the most unusual thing you've had to research for your job?

It's hard to guess what's unusual for me cause I love reading about Crazy Shit In History. I'd guess the experiences of people employed in Freakshows at the turn of the century.
