"Houston...Tranquility Base here...The Eagle has landed." Scene from the documentary For All Mankind.
I just watched the Criterion DVD of this last night, and it's amazing.[More:]The visuals are, of course, awe-inspiring, but the soundtrack is just about at the same level. The soundbites taken from the actual NASA mission tapes are spliced perfectly with astronaut interview snippets and (foleyed?) sound effects into a hypnotic sound montage. And of course, there's all that lovely Brian Eno music... The menu screens alone are a thing of beauty.
Man, inspirational space stuff always chokes me up. Some people cry at movies. I cry in planetariums.

These pages are old, but still great if you like to read about Apollo (and see lots of actual documents from the program).

Bookmarked, thanks!

I just finished the (excellent) book Rocket Men, and now I'm on a bit of a moon kick. (AKA I'm being followed by a moon shadow.)

I've been reading a ton of stuff about solar system exploration this summer, mostly nonfiction (if I could schedule my next vacation at liberty it would go to Venus, Europa, and Titan). But I also just finished Moonseed, which is very hard SF, not a really stupendous novel in a lot of ways, but the latter half of the book revolves around sending an ad-hoc mission to the moon, and the realism is just stunning.

Today's featured article on English wikipedia is pretty wonderful, too.

Nice. And this pic looks like a cross-section of an Everlasting Gobstopper.

Or a tinted contact lens I would totally buy.
