18 August 2009

I am having a crap day. And I could use some encouragement. [More:]I've been in a funk since yesterday, and it's only deepening (in that way that funks love to do, whereby being upset that one is in a funk only reinforces the funk you're in).

Hope me?
Are you where it's hot? 'cause your mood might change with the weather.

Yeah, it's definitely hot here (as in New York, and as in my apartment).

I just feel really, really down today. (Have been feeling since yesterday, actually.) I didn't go to work, and the things I've been doing (more sleep, going to the movies) that I thought would help haven't. And not going to work made me more stressed out at the thought of the work I was missing. I think my mental health day has done more to hurt than help.

oooh. otherdraco, mibbit is a thingy you can use to come to the #bunnies chat room. Do it! Do it!

I took vacation last week and did just about nothing, it seemed. As I expected, it was horrid at times. So yeah, a mental health day that ends up just being time around the house can backfire.

OOooh! You came to the party! Whee!!

Buy something frivolous. It doesn't have to cost a lot, just something fun.

I am also in a funk today. I don't know that I have many de-funking suggestions, but I did want you to know you're not alone.

One thing that did help the other night was dancing around goofily to music for five minutes. Probably even just jumping around goofily, sans music, would help.

Also, following your own logic that fighting the funk is intensifying the funk, you could just accept the funk. Curl into a ball, watch bad television, and feel sorry for yourself for a while. It's ok to give into the funk every now and then.

(I think that typing "funk" over and over again in this thread has possibly just snapped me out of my own funk. FUNK!)

I am also in the funk. I am hoping an extra long run tomorrow will help shake things up.

40 Inspirational Speeches in 2 Minutes.

Alternatively.

Take a large piece of paper, and draw two large boxes. Mark one "Things I can control" and the other "Things I have to live with".

Write down all the things that are bothering you in one of the boxes. If it's in "Things I can control" also write down what you're going to do about it.

(Or do this in your head if you can just visualize it).

Then remind yourself that there's no point worrying about either box. If you have to live with it, you just have to live with it. If you can fix it, you just have to try to fix it. But worrying doesn't help.

When I'm feeling like you are, I try to find something that pushes me over the edge into having a really good, cathartic cry. A movie, song, or YouTube video usually does the trick. Preferably I do this by myself, so that I don't inflict my stuff on other people. Hearty sobbing and lots of snot kind of cry. A good purge.

Yeah, my eyes are puffy the next day, but that resolves itself pretty quickly, and at least I got it mostly out of my system.

I hope you're feeling better soon. It's all going to be ok.
