Interpret this any way you want - as long as it's something from the past.

If you look closely, you'll see BitterOldPunk making a cameo appearance in this one:

This mural is on the wall of Straubenmuller Textile High School in Manhattan where my mom learned needle trades. Oddly enough, she went to work for the Navy in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and did nothing but clerical work from then on.

Coincidentally, my dad attended Automotive High School in Brooklyn and then joined the Navy but they didn't meet until well after the war.

Both schools still exist, although Textile is now called Bayard Rustin, teaches humanities and is slated to close in 2012.

I never look at this without seeing a king, with a frowny face, hugging his R, protectively.

The intersection closest to me, circa 1930. (the candy shop is long gone- a parking lot now, the next building is a used book store and an italian restaurant. The big building is an apartment building now.

(I used the built in image shortcut below the message entry box. I'm seeing the actual image in Preview, not the handy "click to see image" link, so please shoot me if I've stepped on protocol.)

A trilobite fossil (I think...) - looks like the critter got a side of itself displayed instead its back.

I'm slowly scanning all of my grandfather's slides that I inherited. I've never seen any of these pictures and it's been fun to see what I can find. I've scanned about 300 so far.

Here's one of my favorites, California in 1964. I love all the retro signs.
