04 August 2009

My lunch was good, but some of it ended up on my shirt and now I'm sad. [More:]

I had tiny bits of leftover pizza (goat cheese, olives, fresh oregano), a slice of ham with rhubard relish, and lettuce from the allotment topped with mushrooms sauteed in garlic and olive oil.

What'd you have?
I had a tuna and cucumber roll; and a small breast-shaped marzipan cake from Sardinia from a supply brought in by a co-worker.

Lunch? Why, I just had breakfast! You must be living in the FUTURE.
posted by richat 04 August | 06:59
Why yes, I AM living in the future! Want me to tell you how you spend your morning?

Is there an exotic raven-haired beauty in my future?
posted by Wolfdog 04 August | 07:24
Lunch is hours in the future, but if I spill any of my freshly brewed coffee on myself, I'm gonna be pissed. And scalded.
posted by msali 04 August | 07:38
Yes, Wolfdog, but no guarantees about the species.
posted by Firas 04 August | 07:40
Geez, that sounds like such an adult lunch. I'll probably have a Lunchables. :(
posted by mullacc 04 August | 07:42
I bought breakfast at Whole Foods on the way to work. "Mexican" scrambled eggs topped with cheese and hot sauce, which I then microwaved and put on a petit pain roll (redundant, I know). And a coffee. And a plum I bought from home.

Lunch is TBD. I have to buy it because I've been a slacker.

I have leek & carrot risotto in my bag. I forgot my peach for dessert. For breakfast I have carrot & blueberry salad. Right now, I'm just eating coffee.
posted by crush-onastick 04 August | 07:54
I just got up and have not even had coffee yet. . .let alone put any food in my body.
posted by danf 04 August | 08:00
Oh me, oh my, mullacc, I am a trifle choosy when it comes to species.

(On topic, my lunch - in the FUTURE - is going to be a ham sandwich, an apple, a wax pepper, a handful of chips, and no beer.)
posted by Wolfdog 04 August | 08:00
My lunch will be something reheated out of the freezer. Either leftover cinnamon pork or leftover spaghetti.
posted by gaspode 04 August | 08:09
Oh, I forgot: my lunch did not have beer.

That is why I'm sad.
posted by Specklet 04 August | 08:22
I think I might go for a bagel and a smear for lunch with Fage 5% on the side but for now, I'm thinking that this egg, cheese, tomato on croissant is the breakfast of kings. I just wish I had more than five hours of sleep to enjoy being alive today.
posted by eatdonuts 04 August | 08:35
I haven't gotten to the store this week so there was nothing to bring for lunch today. I'll probably just go down to the cafeteria in the basement of the tower next door and buy something typically unhealthy.

Specklet, do you normally have beer with lunch?
posted by octothorpe 04 August | 09:08
No. But I wish beer made you lose weight, cleaned your teeth, and toned your stomach muscles. Then I'd drink it all the time. That, and wine. And gin. And whiskey.
posted by Specklet 04 August | 09:33
We had chicken pot pie last night, so I expect some of it will be chicken pot pie2.
posted by dhartung 04 August | 10:02
I had the usual vanilla yoghurt and granola for breakfast, and lunch will be pasta that I brought back from Italy with broccoli rabe and pesto. Also, green grapes. I forgot how good grapes are. Everyone was buying them at the co-op, so I went back for a bag.

Are you sad for your shirt or that you weren't able to eat the bit that ended up on your shirt?

Because I'd have a hard time knowing which to be sadder about.
posted by unsurprising 04 August | 10:44
Specklet: Since you're living in the future and all, can you please tell me what I should be having for lunch? Because I am actually going to have a cheapie cup-o-ramen type thingie and what you make/have sounds much better than that.
posted by TrishaLynn 04 August | 11:16
Well, Specklet, I spent my morning too damned busy to read this! Now I'm sitting AWAY from the office eating some pizaa with pancetta and peppers and onions, along with a passable caeser salad. Not too bad, cos there isn't too much within walking distance on a gray Tuesday. No beer for me today, and so far, no spillage.
posted by richat 04 August | 11:33
Breakfast was a shredded-wheat - type cereal with yogurt, ground flax seeds, and blueberries, and a hardboiled egg on the side. And green tea.

Lunch was going to be trail mix and cheese and clementines, but I forgot to bring it with me. I probably have enough time between clients to go back home and eat it there, but my 9am client was a no-show and if my 10am client is also a no-show (he's missed as many appointments as he's shown up for), I may go drown my frustrated rage in a turkey sandwich.
posted by occhiblu 04 August | 11:36
Lunch turned out to be a turkey cheddar melt and a bowl of wedding soup. Tasty but probably not helping my weight loss program.
posted by octothorpe 04 August | 11:41
unsurprising, I think I was sadder about the bit I didn't get to eat. It's an old t-shirt, and I love me my food.

TL, boil some water, add chopped kale, simmer ten minutes. Add ramen, fresh garlic, toasted sesame oil, cayenne, and half the pack of ramen powder crap. Cook three minutes. Healthy (sort of) and tasty ramen!

richat, I know you were working hard this morning, I could have told you that! Seriously, though, I was going to say that if you'd asked me to tell you. And I knew that you were going to have pizza for lunch.

Want me to tell you how your evening goes?
posted by Specklet 04 August | 11:43
Oh, and I'm roasting a chicken with tarragon and onions for dinner, in case you were wondering.
posted by Specklet 04 August | 11:44
Kaylee and the mister brought home breakfast from Burger King (croissandwiches FTW!). Dunno what lunch will be; depends on if the plumbers/contractors have started ripping up the kitchen or not.
posted by deborah 04 August | 11:51
That ramen idea sounds really good. I bet it would be equally good with buckwheat soba as the noodles and some DIY spices. Hmmm.

I am on the GM diet this week, so lunch, this being Day 3, was fruit. Dinner is vegetables. Tomorrow is milk and bananas.

Yes, I know it sounds cranky, but I've eaten SO much crap lately that I need to give myself a break from eating rubbish. The first four days are all fruit and veg based and I certainly feel better for it.

Work does get busy when I'm the only game in town. I graciously allowed the youngin' to take vacation. SO GRACIOUS. I did warn him that I would spend his vacation cursing him.

I am pretty sure I know how my evening will go too. Not that exciting these days...Of course, I am always happy to hear how things are in the future!
posted by richat 04 August | 11:58
I'm having carrots for lunch. Do you pity me? Good, because I pity me. Course, I'm the one who stuffed all that previous food into my mouth to cause the weight gain....sigh.

Lunch for me (in about an hour) will be the same all yesterday (since I pack them all on Sunday): mini faux hot pocket, a few home made cheese tortellinis, green beans with honey cashew sauce, a wee salad, an orange, and soda.
posted by sperose 04 August | 12:26
Lunch today was a chicken-and-camembert sandwich on a pumpernickel-like bread with fancy honey dijon (I buy the cheapest eggs but the fanciest mustard...), with smoked salmon and chive-y cream cheese on the side (which is not really a side, per se, but there it is). And a big glass of water.

Dinner was a brined, herbes-de-Provence-d chicken breast, couscous with almonds and golden raisins, and a bowl of plain yogurt with a nectarine. Omnomnom.

Specklet, how'd the chicken turn out?
posted by mdonley 04 August | 15:21
My lunch today was ---

heeeeeey, wait a minute! No wonder I'm so spacey and headachey!

Uh, well, whatever it ends up being, it'll involve French bread, tapenade, and onions caramelized in red wine and balsamic vinegar: all leftovers from last night's (rousingly successful!) tapas party, and pretty much all we have in the house at the moment.

I had delicious tacos, a bag of kettle chips, and a Mexican coke all for under 4 bucks! oh nom.
posted by special-k 04 August | 15:28
Just now (yes, 4 hours after my usual lunchtime; it's been crazy over here) eating my pre-packaged ramen thingie and I will have to try Specklet's ramen recipe sometime when I home and not at work.

Dinner? *laughs hysterically*

I had to buy a sammich for lunch because I didn't have time to make yours as well as mine. And then you spill it?. Mutter, mutter...
posted by TheDonF 04 August | 16:28
Uh, yeah, TheDonF makes my lunch every morning. I didn't mean to withhold that info! Thanks, buns! *kiss kiss kiss*

mdonley, the chicken was freaking awesome. I overcooked it a tiny bit, but the fresh tarragon really came through. I threw in some potatoes some small onions from the allotment in the pan. TheDonF made cabbage (from the allotment too) with caraway seeds. We ate it all up with a bottle of white wine (leftover from our ring exchange celebration). Oh so yum.
posted by Specklet 04 August | 16:55
Lunch ended up being a loaf of foccacia bread dipped in olive oil. Dinner will be bacon and tomato sammiches.
