29 July 2009

This is a grouching thread. [More:]

Someone sprayed disinfectant all over a desk near me, then cinnamon air freshner to combat the odor, and the overload of chemical smells has given me a splitting headache and made me light-headed.

I left a tin of mints in with my work things, and apparently leaving anything edible visible is an invitation to eat them regardless if they are yours or not.

My lunch break was scheduled to coincide with a training session and I was apparently supposed to eat my lunch in a room full of people who were not eating. I discovered this upon arriving back at my desk from training and seeing that my lunch break had just ended. I managed to eat, but I'm here until eight.

I've changed my meds and am more emotional than usual, and I just want to crawl into a dark corner with my woobie.
I wish I had a woobie.

*Casts a grouchy envious stare in Specklet's direction. That, and whuffles*

That warrants some legitimate grouching, Specklet. FOR SURE.

Me? I've been having a super lousy 1.5 weeks since vacation ended. Seems jen and I are near the end of the line on how long we can continue in the same house while I look for a new place. The financial de-tangling has been taking longer than I'd hoped, and so...I've not been able to look for a place as soon as would have been best. I'm going to look at a couple tonight that are perhaps a little beyond my comfortable price range, but sound like nice places, that need little work, and one giant upside? 5 minute walk to a private sandy beach. YES.

Also, my car is STILL in the shop...I dropped it off a week ago this past Monday. The mechanic, who I trust completely at least, just can't seem to sort out why it's still overheating. I don't like not having my car, and I don't like the uncertainty. Also, to come back from two great weeks of vacation, away from the divorce stress, to be housebound (in the house that I recently signed away...) has TOTALLY sucked eggs. BIG SUCKY EGGS.

So yeah...thanks for the grouching thread! Seems like I had some grouching to do!

*gives Specklet gentle whuffles*

It's still hot here; record breaking temperatures yesterday. It's supposed to be even hotter today. I'm quite sure the headache I've had for several days is heat induced. *whimper*

*whuffles to Specklet and essexjan from the next thread down*

deborah, can we share some of your heat please? I don't want all of it, but given that it's been 15 degrees and pouring with rain all day, some kind of middle ground would be nice.

Grouch: I wish it would stop raining so I could stop work and go to the pub!!!

At least you have us, whilst you're at work. Everything interesting is blocked in my office.

It is so so SO muggy in NYC, and I have to put a suit on, and the thought of it makes me want to diiiiiie.

More record temps in the Northwest. It's not that it's overly hot, but most of us are just not ready for it, in that it gets really hot for about a week per year and it's not a paying proposition to have a/c in one's home, usually, if it's only needed for a week or so in the summer.

Cold and rainy here today and I discovered that my formerly waterproof shoes are no longer. Been sitting here with wet feet all day.

Man, it seems like we're all too hot or too cold. It's drizzly and cool here, and I'm wondering if my tomatoes will ever have a chance to get ripe.

I get to go home in fifteen minutes and drink wine and clutch my woobie (sorry msali, but I rarely share it) and hug my nice husband.

He verr nice boy. He brought me chocolate and replacement mints on his way past my office.

I'm having to set some new boundaries, which is largely a positive thing. What's grouch-worthy: setting boundaries also means patrolling them, devoting time and energy to policing the perimeter in as neutral a way as possible.

I guess this is not so much a grouch as it is a weighty sigh. Sigh.

On preview: Specklet, that makes me say "Awwwwww!" out loud!

Made a date with LT to join him at the public pool for lunch hour. Trudged out onto the hot sidewalks to get a sandwich to bring, then trudged out to the pool, only to find it closed for a special party. The nerve!

Decided to cut my losses and spend the afternoon shopping for program supplies for work. Went to the store, checked out with a big pile of supplies, only to find my work credit card was declined. Went to the business office and learned that new cards had been issued, old ones cancelled, mine is missing, and this is the first anyone knew of it.

Ugh. 5:00, hurry up.

Yet another comment from passive-aggressive coworker who is upset that she is not a permanent committee member (anyone is welcome to attend meetings) beginning with, "Um? I obviously wasn't involved in the design of this, but .." I would gladly give up my seat on said committee if I didn't have to listen to her whining of a Wednesday afternoon anymore. (Except that I can't; bosses nixed the idea.)

The heat is really kicking my butt. Break my leg and I can suck it up and deal. Put me in humidity and I'm such a wuss.

So. Hot.

One of our new kitties has ringworm and now we're both going around paranoid and itchy that we've got it now too. We even broke out a blacklight this morning to see if we could see it on ourselves.

I'm grouchy at one of my recommenders being slow about responding to emails and sending out her letter. I had this problem with her last time and I'm going to be very pissed if I have to drag my ass down to DC to talk to her in person.

I just want this school drama to be done with, ugh. I've been wasting so much mental energy on this.

Getting whiny "What can I do?" push-back from the landlord of the drug house across the street. I text-message drug buys and gang activity, and the other day was a 911 call when several hip-hop-uniformed bangers visited there, then ambled over to the intersection of which we're one corner, where about three or four vehicles arrived to make buys in broad daylight. (The throwaway cell phone has been a boon to this business -- permanent floating flea markets are harder than drug houses, but easier in a way too.) Then after wandering over to the legitimate drug store to spend some of their money, these same dudes wandered past our neighbor and one of them just walked up onto his property and took a big piece of lumber. As if "nailed down" is the only expression of property they understand. Well, I just broadly mentioned to the landlord fellow that we would be asking the cops what to do about the situation when we go to the National Night Out party ....

He's acting like he must have an arrest or something before he can evict. I know that's not true, because I'm a landlord myself. Love to smack his sleazy drug-money-supported ass silly.

Just walked in. Commute that's normally 30 minutes took close to 75. Not a happy camper. That's all.

We're standing at 98F right now w/Humidex of 109. Broke yesterday's record by a (Celsius) degree. Supposed to be a couple degrees cooler tomorrow.

*whuffles Specklet and richat*

I'm into the 3rd day of antibiotics and am still coughing and voiceless. At least what's coming up isn't green anymore. Was cupped at the acupunctrist's and now I have huge purple marks on my back. I want to wear my sandals but the daily thunderstorms have been pissing rain. I hate being damp and I need to clear out my front hall so the vestiuble table can be delivered. Might have to confront a rival tommorow night. Wish I were in Cape Cod.

Yesterday, I had to go out to a listing to meet someone there, only for the heavens to start pouring down and my pants to become soaked below the knee. Hiked over to Sixth Avenue where cab-catching is easier, got one, went to the place, and then waited a very long time for the other party to arrive. Made a decision to take the third party up to the residence to find out, whoops! the owner's in town and didn't tell us, so we need to re-schedule for when she leaves town or is out for the day. Come back to the office, only to find an email from buyer who's frantic about getting his guys in to see the place because they came a long way.

Well, hell! It's not our fault the owner didn't tell us she was going to be in town! And besides, I overheard the guys say they were just around the corner, so there!

And of course now my shoes are ruined, I had to use my emergency skirt, and now I don't even know if my dinner plans for tonight are still on because dude-friend's phone really sucks.
