Dinner and a Movie. What are some tasty, thematic dinners to cook up and eat while watching a movie? Scanty bowls of gruel during Oliver Twist? Human flesh for Alive?[More:]

Movies I watched dinners I cooked last week:

Gone With The Wind: Buttermilk biscuits, blackeyed peas with salt pork (I believe they call this "side meat" in the book), a mess of greens, and sweet tea.

Me and You and Everyone We Know: Skillet-popped popcorn with homemade chile powder and lime juice and lime zest. Individual pita pizzas with "I ♥ U" spelled out with cookie-cuttered pepperoni and flaming birthday candles stuck in them (no, it was not anyone's birthday).

This would work for pretty much any movie, but I think the smitten quirkiness of the pizzas fit nicely with the "look it's a Miranda July-ified romantic comedy" mood of the movie.
Some movies that I saw recently that were half-way decent:

Two Lovers: cold cut sandwiches with Gulden's mustard. Or, steaks and Brandy Alexanders

Sin Nombre
: tamales or enchiladas

Downfall (Der Untergang): Bratwurst, sauerkraut, potatoes and German beer. Or, military rations.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: No tea.

Cast Away: lobster or crabs.
Empire Strikes Back: hot dog thingies.
Thelma and Louise: diner food.
Godspell: communion wafers and wine.
The Belle of Amherst: Black cake.
Grey Gardens: cat food and/or paté.
The Cider House Rules: ... .
Blazing Saddles: baked beans.

The Exorcist: split pea soup.

Empire Strikes Back: hot dog thingies.

I could use a smidge more explanation on that one.

I could use a smidge more explanation on that one.

When Luke and Yoda first meet but L. doesn't know who Y. is, L. gets mad when Y. samples one of L.'s rations, which sort of looks like a hot dog.

I once spent a rainy winter afternoon making (and then eating) spaghetti bolognese and watching the first two Godfather movies. For true thematic tie-in, one could add cannoli.

The Paul Street Boys: A crescent roll, a small cup of warm milk, and a piece of penny candy.

I was gonna add what occhiblu wrote. I always get a hankerin' for Italian food when watching the Godfather flicks.

That Godfather thing, for real, is Christmas Eve at my In-Laws. With 30 times more food and people ages 3 - 90.

It worries me a little bit.

Moon: Freeze-dried MREs, with Tang and astronaut ice cream for dessert!

I read somewhere about someone doing a screening of Napoleon Dynamite and serving the food that appears in the opening credits.
