Advice? Crappy connection to MetaFilter →[More:]Hi guys. I am in a hotel in Campinas, Brasil. All of the rest of the Internet comes through fine, but goshdarnit I don't really need the rest of the Internet, I need MeFi, Ask, MeTa.

It seems like I constantly get hung up waiting for data from mefi.us. I get a screen sized chunk of unstyled header, and no meat. Every once in a while for whatever reason I will get a few pageloads, but 99% of the time I am just waiting and wishing.

Any ideas?

Install noscript, then block mefi.us? (This is by no means an optimal solution, and will kinda break the site. You'll be able to read, though.)

box, that does work and thank you... can someone tell me what if anything I am actually missing having blocked mefi.us? Anything mission critical?

Ooh, and here's a really good comment from pb:

By the way, here are the things that won't work if you have mefi.us blocked:

* j/k keyboard navigation for posts/comments
* b/i/link HTML buttons for posting/commenting
* the 'add tags' and 'add photos' (MeTa meetups only) links inside threads
* the inline youtube player

Favorites, flagging, and any other JavaScript-powered bits should work as expected even with the new domain blocked.

hmm, seems that the flagging / favs is also screwed, actually. But whatever, not really complaining, as long as I can read and post it is much better than nothing. Thanks a lot guys.
