Well, it's most definitely not shiny. Currently 55°F and raining. Again.

Today hasn't really shown it's true colors yet, but I've sent off my monthly and quarterly stat reports to the boss, so that pretty much wraps up all the work I have to do today (that isn't related to requests coming in).

What I really need to do is buckle down and get my to-do list in some sort of manageable order, send out a pissy email, and finish a report. Ugh.

So far my day is shiny. Finished a kitchen install yesterday so today is shorts & flip flops in the home office & catching up on emails/bills/etc with sleeping dog & cat at my side.

Amazingly enough the UPS guy just showed up with the new keyboard I only ordered yesterday afternoon and only paid for the cheapest possible shipping. (It's one of these. I have notes in my little diary describing the slow failure of the old keyboard dating back to last July, most of which are paired with "I should really get a new one, but just wait and see how long I put it off".) Anyway, I'm pretty tickled with it at the moment. It goes CLICKclickclick very nicely. And all the keys work. Particularly given that I do a LOT of editing in vi, I was beginning to pick up some really odd habits to work around things that didn't work on the old one. I'm also looking forward to laying some smack down on some of my favorite typing games. The previous generation of Apple keyboards was bad enough (mushy) but the current ones they make are totally yeurgh.

And yeah! I'm looking at getting another dog. A Belgian! And that is kind of a Big Deal.

So there's a bit of shine on today. But there will be more so if I can make any progress on the problem I'm working on.

Crap day. BoSox coughed up a ten-run lead, one of my best friends from the radio station split last night for VT, and the sun has not appeared in five entire days.

My day has been sucky. I have got SO much casework to deal with, yet had to spend the entire day checking whether certain data recorded on our system on the last six months' cases was accurate. And when I'd finished mine (just before lunchtime) I was asked told to do the same for a co-worker who's on holiday this week. At least with my own files I knew what the cases were about but with hers I had to read everything before I could check whether or not the data codes were correct.

And then at lunchtime there were disapproving looks all round from the people I was eating lunch with when, in a discussion about comedy, I said that I thought Frank Skinner is much funnier than Peter Kay. Now Peter Kay is pretty funny, but he's so safe. You could take your grandma to see him and she'd love him. Frank Skinner is filthy. But to even dare to suggest that there might be someone funnier than the God of Comedy Peter Kay to a group of almost-middle-aged men whose former jobs were as small-town building society assistant managers (think Dwight Schrute, but without the charisma and career achievements) ... well, I'll be the talk of the Rotary Club for weeks to come, I suspect.

But the work on the flat is coming along well, although I'm sick to death of living in a mess. The spare bedroom where I'm sleeping/eating/existing gets the full blast of the afternoon sun, and it's been brutal this week. So, fan on all night, cats banished outside, in the hope of a good night's sleep.

Not real good. The sewer has been backing up in our rental duplex and Roto-Rooter was unable to clear it ($110 of nothing). We'll have to have a plumber come to put a full-size cleanout in the main stack so they can get in there. Before that, I'll have to break down the brickwork! Sheesh.

Wolfdog, Belgians are beeyouuuuutiful! I'm jealous big-time. Pics soon, yes?

My day is un-shiny. Lots of baaaaad customer service calls to deal with. *sigh*

It may be some time before I actually end up with dog in hand, so to speak, but I have to agree about the beeyouuuuutiful.

Sucky, but getting better the closer I get to the Chicago meetup tonight.

Shiny, shiny, shiny day!!!! Mr. V's latest cancer drug, the third one he's been on, seems to be working!!! All his lesions/tumors are shrinking! This is the first time this has happened, ever!!!!!! Hooray!!!
