I think it's time for another non-video game thread →[More:]So at the last NYC meetup, I met vraktar and was told about his idea to start a D&D campaign with people over the summer. I loved the
Penny Arcade/PvP/Wil Wheaton podcasts of playing 4th Edition, so I immediately jumped on that by contacting him through dabitch (and isn't it funny how I used the Twitter account of someone in Sweden to get a MeMail to him?) and now I'm proud to say that after consulting the PHB tonight, I will have a 2nd level halfling rogue.
My friend for whom I found an awesome apartment on the UES likes to play games from Europe, and the one I've liked the best so far is a card game I think is called Race for Space, but Google is proving me wrong. Based on science-fiction themes, the object of the game is to build a universe with specific kinds of cards for points, and the person with the most points wins. The part that I think is fun is to realize while you're playing your cards strategically is that you're creating a world at the same time and there's an actual narrative. The part I don't think is fun is that a) he wins almost every game when we play and b) sometimes building the narrative gets in the way of easily scoring points.
You?
