She won't make him a grilled cheese sandwich. This had me laughing hysterically at work...alas I couldn't tell anyone why. No nsfw words in the post, just G-rated euphemisms in their place. [More:]The comments are a part of what makes it so funny.
Maybe he thinks the cheese is Cheddar, when in truth it's Limburger.

Best reply so far, "Grilled cheeses are the best, especially when she has tomato soup."

That is undeniably the best comment thread I've read on the internet. Full of good advice on how to make grilled cheese sandwiches! :)

I just stopped liking grilled cheese a little bit, and I never thought that would be possible.

At the great buffet of life, some get grilled cheese, some get none, and some few find themselves at the end of the table with a handful of milkbones and no idea how they got there.

I wonder if he prepares a nice tuna sandwich for her, now and then. . .

I think I found the guy's problem. A comment that claims is by the OP says, "She makes every other kind of food imaginable, even the kind you [eat in the park]." Now, if that picnic in any way includes Rocky Road, that may be from where her aversion derives. I have heard many women claim that once they travel the Rocky Road, grilled cheese is forever off the menu.

I'm not being flip, but I have no idea what you're talking about.

How about "chocolate highway"?

Joan Fuckin' Jett spells it out clearly in the third verse of Fetish.

Eek! I forgot how long and creepy Mr. Loaf's fingernails are in that video.

Presumably, you'd wash the dishes between having rocky road and grilled cheese. I'd say that grilled cheese THEN rocky road would make more sense as a meal in all respects.

I'm a little confused here. After the sandwich, wouldn't the guy have to digest a little bit, perhaps take a nap or two, before starting in on the ice cream?
posted by Melismata 04 June | 19:39
Well, if he has a little restraint, maybe he doesn't have to finish his sandwich so he has room for dessert?

Same here.

Agreed.

One of my problems is that I love grilled cheese sandwiches, but my recent cooking partner will only nibble around the edges of the sandwich I make before putting it aside for something else he wants me to cook. Which is fine, I mean it's his hunger, but what if I really like making them and enjoy watching him enjoy the fruits of my culinary labor?

The best thing for me is when my lovely woman tells me about cooking me a grilled cheese while she's doing it.

"Wow, you are really good at making grilled chese, aren't you?"
"Mm-hmm"
"Do you like making me grilled cheese?"
"Mm-hmm"

I really agreed with the comment about being tired at the end of the day. I'm always a little sleep deprived and right before I go to bed I'm always frantically tidying the apartment, putting things away, washing the dishes (real ones)... there are always sooo many dishes! (Real dishes) Why?!

I just need more sleep. Grilled cheese takes so long. (The real stuff, too, what's up with that?...) And who's to say if I cooked well one day, I wouldn't suck the next day because I was careless or not paying attention. Then people just say they liked the dish to be polite. That's what they did when I burned the brussels sprouts at Thanksgiving...

Since that happens with real food, I'm sure it's happening with fake food too...

That was definitely one of the best threads of all time, though!

C'mon, folks, I'm sure someone has a great response to this one!

if you wanna spice up your grilled cheese sandwich, put in some ketchup with a little worchestershire sauce with the cheese , its tangy and mmmmmmmmmmm

As Ted Nugent was fond of saying, "Any grilled cheese is good grilled cheese."

As someone who is at the moment constantly tired and worn out, I don't know how my husband and I would, as a couple, survive without grilled cheese sandwiches. So much quicker to make than a full on meal and the end result is the same. They are a great stop-gap measure. At the moment we are only eating multi-course meals in the weekend. Sigh.

Still I have other friends that haven't even had so much as cheez-whiz on a cracker for months after their kid(s) were born, so I maybe shouldn't be so down on myself.

I don't know if this is just my odd way of thinking, but the making of a grilled cheese is very special to me, I need a clean kitchen and I also need to know that this is my kitchen and nobody else will ever cook in it before I can really enjoy cooking a grilled cheese sandwich. Once I know that, I go to town and make the best grilled cheese in the world. I have heard it's so good, he's seen the virgin mary in the brown of the melted cheese.

I can't add anything to that. . .
