I just got back from the ER ... [More:]... which is not how I'd planned on spending my last night in NY. After I'd spent much of today drinking cranberry juice and peeing orange wee (thanks to the Uristat I was taking), Jason decided that this wasn't going away by itself (I tend to suffer stoically in silence) and that we were going to the ER. Following the excellent advice dispensed by Pips, we went to Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens, where my lack of an American social security number and the intricacies of my travel insurance policy meant they had some trouble putting me in the system. But I provided a pee sample, and after a wait of about two-and-a-half hours, a nice young doctor told me that yes, I do have a UTI and he had ordered some meds for me. So that was that, a couple of tablets, a couple of prescriptions and we got home about 20 minutes ago.

The ER waiting room was, er, interesting to say the least. It looked as if a number of people were regular visitors, on first-name terms with the receptionists and I would guess that about half the people who were called to see the doctor had already left by that point.

Not long before I was called in by the doctor a woman turned up with a big suitcase. She made some guy sitting in the corner move because she wanted that seat and she promptly fell asleep. She didn't register with the reception staff or see the triage nurse, and I suspect she wasn't really ill, just looking for some shelter. She was wearing the most awesome hat, a little pillbox that was decorated like a birthday cake, complete with candles. If she hadn't looked like a total mentalist, I'd have tried to sneak the hat off her head while she was asleep.

Anyway, I'm home now with my boo, having supper. Tomorrow's my last day, and we're going to the IHOP for brunch! Woo! Pancakes!
Get the cheese blintzes at IHOP!

Wait, what was that?? So are you feeling okay now?

We can't send you home all fucked up. Hope you're feeling better by now, friend... *hug*

It'll take a while, BP, for the antibiotics to work their magic. In the meantime, tomorrow I'll try to beg American Airlines to swap me to an aisle seat (the plane is nearly full).

I looked at the IHOP menu and don't see cheese blintzes on it. I have a horrible feeling that even the smallest serving of anything on the menu will be three times as much food as I can eat.

I'm so glad it worked out. Yeah, that waiting room's a trip at Mt. Sinai of Queens, hut it's quicker than most in NYC (at Columbia-Presbyterian in Manhattan, if you're not at death's door, you'd have been there all night, waiting for test results -- still worth it, though, if you have anything more major; I had my gallbladder surgery there, and once you get past the ER, they're fabulous). But Mt. Sinai's great for smaller, off-hour stuff. We've only been a few times, but usually the wait's under an hour. In any case, glad you're on the mend, and enjoy those pancakes!

Oh, good, I'm glad you went. I had visions of you getting crippling kidney pain halfway over the Atlantic and coming down feverish needing to be rushed to the hospital as you landed in London.

I am glad that it's not more serious, and you will be on the mend.

Ugh. Too bad you have to get on a plane feeling like shit. Hope you get to feeling better soon!

PS: How long is the flight between NYC and London? I flew non-stop from Houston and it's eight hours. Eight miserable hours.

Glad you went! Hope the meds kick in quickly and that you've gotten some far better souvenirs to make up for this one.
Have a safe flight!
