C'mon, fess up. Who sent me a book? [More:]
I got a book this morning via Amazon that I hadn't ordered. There was no invoice with it, so I know it's from a third party. But who sent it?

The book is 'Overworld: The Life and Times of a Reluctant Spy' by Larry J. Kolb.
Hmm, you don't have your wishlist in the Mecha wiki, so I would guess it was someone who did the Card Swap.

It wasn't me, but I wish I'd thought to send you a little present out of the blue!

Have you ever mentioned that book online? Are you sure it was one of us?

I can't think who else might have sent it. I don't think I've ever heard of it before.

This reminds me of that time I got a Bollywood DVD in the mail, addressed to me, and never found out who sent it.

BoPo: Was it any good?

I only checked out a few minutes of it, special-k. Didn't really seem like my kinda thing.

There was this time that my dad got this really handsome hardbound book with a fake (printed) handwritten note attached saying he should like it.

It was a 500-page self-published academic-language treatise on how the white race was being diluted by everyone Eye-talian and darker. Most memorable moment: how the Jews had stolen the nuclear secret and removed the one military advantage held by the Anglo-Saxons, whereas the secret of Greek fire had been kept secret for 500 years. So there.

Uh, was this anything like that?

No, stilicho, it was just a padded envelope, from Bookclosouts.com/Amazon UK, posted through Germany but with a US Customs Declaration on it.

Randall? Has anyone seen IRFH poking around people's wishlists again?

Several metachat members have, in the past, liked to send books to other members semi-anonymously. I think it's supposed to be a Random Act of Kindness. But usually it was something off a wishlist.

Confidential to Randall: I enjoyed Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance very much.

Mystery solved. The sender emailed me.

Was it a bunny, or someone else?

It was a bunny.

That doesn't surprise me at all. Very cool.
