I live in Portland, OR. Which makes it stupid ridiculous that I have a tomato. This thing was already blossoming when I still had it downstairs under the grow lights.

I was a little overenthusiastic to transplant everything and we came dangerously close to freezing last night but after spending all late winter and spring staining cedar and building beds and shoveling dirt and breaking up concrete I had to plant! I had to! Luckily we have some plastic leftover from this winter's hoop house we can throw over everything if we need to.

The variety is Beaverlodge which was bred in Canada for the short growing season. It's 55 days to maturity! Oh my god, I'm losing my mind. I feel like I've worked for 4 months straight for this moment! Forgetting that the yard is still a wreck, I have a tomato!

And soon it'll be back to work building the chicken coop which we have to get started SOON or we won't get any chicks this year and I will DIE! But, tomato!

(Whenever I read about ethylene making tomatoes turn from green to red I miss our ethylene!)

I miss Ethylene as well, but hooray for the tomato! May you breed much good sweetness and abundance, birdie! Oh! The tomato sauces you shall make!
