01 April 2009

The great thing about announcing a pregnancy [More:]on April Fool's day is that no one can tell if it's a joke. Especially if you do it via Facebook and Twitter.
Cheers! Here's hoping it's triplets!

So you can be PopPopPop!

ColdChef, are you expecting?
posted by msali 01 April | 07:46
I expect nothing. My wife, however, is expecting another child. That's three. Octomom, watch your back!

That's such great news. Every child is a blessing. Best wishes for an easy pregnancy and a healthy baby. You do realize, that now you and Mrs. Cold Chef will be outnumbered, don't you???

I like to think of our children as a steady source of income for my retirement years. And, of course, a tax deduction in the meantime. Call me a sentimentalist.

Also, when sleeping, can be used as a coaster.

What? Congrats, ColdChef!!

Woohoo! Congratulations to you and the missus, ColdChef. One more little person for your exploitation and our amusement--I'm for it.

And somebody else I know on Facebook is claiming to be pregnant with twins (they are pregnant, but twins? I don't believe until tomorrow).

No more a rake and no more a bachelor
I was wedded and it whetted my thirst
Until her womb start spilling out babies
Only then did I reckon my curse

I was just listening to this Colin Meloy song on the way in. . .I am SURE that you have a different attitude!

Congratulations. . .(after one, I craved sleep too much to want to go through it again).

Congratulations, ColdChef!

I hope it's not inappropriate to say this, but six weeks after my late fiancé, George died, his nephew and wife found out they were expecting their first baby, who was born exactly 40 weeks to the day after he died. Circle of life, and all that. You know, thinking about your dad passing so recently, and all ...

Also, would this be the right thread to announce my pregnancy, or do you think I should tell Jason in private first?

Circle of life, and all that. You know, thinking about your dad passing so recently, and all ...

It turns out that, including my wife, there were at least three women at my dad's funeral who were pregnant, but didn't know it yet. Circle, indeed.

(Oh, it isn't a joke.)

Congratulations, ColdChef!

Surely if there's one area of life for which gender-neutral language is not necessary, pregnancy is it?

Congratulations, ColdChef - good luck to your wife for the rest of the pregnancy.

Best wishes, and congratulations. Also, agreeing with BitterOldPunk on names ... at least for a middle name?

Congrats on the kiddo! (Unless this is April Fool's, in which case, congrats on getting me!)

I've been thinking about you so much, too, since your dad died, so perhaps that's why I'm smiling extra hard at this news. Well, that, and the fact that perhaps YOU will be the one to take my up on my oft-proffered (but perpetually declined) suggestion to name the baby Huckleberry.
posted by scody 01 April | 14:23
I AM NOT JOKING: I suggested and continue to lobby for "Huckleberry." Love it! Looks like I married the wrong woman.
posted by ColdChef 01 April | 14:42
ok, now I believe you. Congrats man! Are the girls excited about the news?
posted by special-k 01 April | 14:51
I will name my first kid Huckleberry unless ColdChef does it first!
posted by muddgirl 01 April | 14:52
Yay, congratulations! I'm excited to see future photos.

Congratulations! Of course, you know you've broken the golden rule of not having more kids than you have hands, don't you?

(He with four kids says...).

Given the whole circle of life thing, this is an opportunity to give your child a name that memorialises your father. I know this is a little trite and not as common as it used to be, but we named my son (well, middle name, given that we had Edgar, Donald and Norman to choose from) after my grandfather, who was more like a father to me than grandfather. We chose Norman because, well Edgar was never really in the running, Thomas Donald [lastname] didn't really sound right and anyway my grandfather was known as "Norm" all his life. It's a silly thing to many people, but it meant a lot to me to be able to do it and my partner understood that, even though she didn't like any of the names on offer.

Three! Three shall be the number!

Why yes, I am feeling silly today. why do you ask?
posted by lysdexic 01 April | 15:28
I, too, am pregnant. WITH GOOD WISHES AND CHEER! Congrats, ColdChef! (Now I'm actually glad that we didn't visit while down your way, since I came back with what amounts to the plague. Wouldn't have wanted to pass that on.)
posted by It's Raining Florence Henderson 01 April | 15:41
Thanks for all the well-wishes, folks. Now I feel bad that this was all an elaborate April Fool's joke and that she's not at all pregnant. I feel so bad, in fact, that I promise to impregnate my wife immediately so that all your congratulations aren't in vain!

(Just kiddin'--we're TOTALLY preggers. Thanks!)
posted by ColdChef 01 April | 15:55
Actually, the elaborate April Fool's joke is that it's not your baby!
posted by It's Raining Florence Henderson 01 April | 17:11
Also: Have you considered naming the baby "Psych!"? I think that would be a fun name for a child.

Just out of idle curiosity - if it's a boy, will he be GJ IV? Or are y'all gonna buck the trend?

Saw a movie a long time ago with a child actor named Huckleberry Fox. I've liked the name since then. Turns out Huckleberry's real first name is George.
posted by deborah 02 April | 15:41
See, here's the problem: we've already got a Georgia, so we don't want a Georgia and a George. And the middle name is Joseph, and there's no way I'd want to call my son that. Or Joe. Or Joey. If we did go with GJ IV, we'd have to call him something completely different. Like Huckleberry. Hmmm...I'll have to think about this.
