Lyrics Game...with a theme! I'm not going to spell out the theme...but it shouldn't be too hard to spot.[More:]
#1 - There will be parties, there will be fun.
#2 - Them playin' leapfrog and hearin' about Snow White,
#3 - Now I know your mama she don't like me 'cause I play in a rock and roll band
#4 - My kids are small, 4 and 3
#5 - He's outrageous, he screams and he bawls
#6 - And when I speak of you I see envy in other men's eyes,
#7 - If you're after getting the honey, then you don't go killing all the bees
#8 - She was low down and trifling, and she was cold and mean
#9 - Dont shoot that singer (youre shooting number one)
#10 - I guess Nashville was the roughest, but I know I said the same about them all.
3 - Rosalita - Bruce Springsteen

9 - Annie Get Your Gun - Squeeze
(I finally get in early in one of these)

The first one is Billy Bragg, but I can't remember the name of the song. (There will be prizes for everyone!)

#1 Billy Bragg, "Here Comes Richard"
#7 Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros, "Johnny Appleseed"

Ooh. #8 is Johnny Cash, i think. hrm.
posted by gaspode 11 March | 14:36
Everything that everyone's said is true! But, of course, gaspode's isn't complete!
posted by richat 11 March | 14:38
(and I've always been partial to that Billy Bragg song, being a Richard myself.)

Oh, duh. Now I think about the theme. Delia's gone.

And 5 is Jean Genie - Bowie
posted by rocket88 11 March | 14:44
Argh, rocket88, of course! I had the lyric running through my head, but somehow my brain was telling me it was Jimmy Jazz (Clash). Why my brain would do that, I have no idea, because I knew it wasn't right, but couldn't get the song.
posted by gaspode 11 March | 14:52
yup, Jean Genie it is, and Delia's Gone is also right!

That leaves 2, 4, 6 and 10:

#2 - Them playin' leapfrog and hearin' about Snow White,
#4 - My kids are small, 4 and 3
#6 - And when I speak of you I see envy in other men's eyes,
#10 - I guess Nashville was the roughest, but I know I said the same about them all.

is #4 Ma Jolie Louise? I love Daniel Lanois. That CD is awesome.

8 is Life in The Fast Lane by The Eagles
posted by Lipstick Thespian 11 March | 16:19
Yup! #4 is Jolie Louise!

And LT, I'm going to have to go google #8 and see if it's ALSO Life in the Fast Lane!
posted by richat 11 March | 16:31
Is #6 "Bernadette" by The Temptations?

Regret to inform that "Life in the Fast Lane" is "He was brutally handsome, and she was terminally pretty."
posted by kirkaracha 11 March | 16:45
Yes to Bernadette! Of course...the theme must be obvious by now...
posted by richat 11 March | 16:50
weird how I did that - carry on.

So, all that's left is #2 and #10.

#2 - Them playin' leapfrog and hearin' about Snow White,
Here's another (perhaps more telling) couplet from this song:
Stayin' up for days in the Chelsea Hotel,
Writin' "Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" for you.

#10 - I guess Nashville was the roughest, but I know I said the same about them all.
This is a lesser known song, perhaps, by a certain redheaded pothead from Texas. Here's another great verse:
Almost busted in Laredo,
But for reasons that I'd rather not disclose,
But if you're stayin' in a motel there and leave,
Just don't leave nothin' in your clothes.

And keep in mind that all the titles to this batch include names!

Nice added clue--#2 is 'Sara,' by Bob Dylan, from the Desire album.
posted by box 11 March | 19:31
Yup, box is right. A song that was reputedly an attempt at reconciliation on Bob's part, released on 1976's Desire. Given that I'm pretty sure most of Idiot Wind is aimed at Sara, I'm not sure this song would be enough...

#10 is Me & Paul, by Willie Nelson...Here's the great version he did at the VH1 Storytellers with Willie and Johnny Cash.
