American, Canadian and Mexican bunnies ... [More:]... don't forget to put your clocks forward an hour tonight. Daylight Savings Time starts tonight for you. In the UK, ours is three weeks away still.

And yes, the clocks go forward. Spring forward, fall back is how you remember.

i cant wait until daylight savings time starts here... need more light!

Thanks for the heads up.

I was just at my neighbor's house and she told me. I had no idea. I'm living in a cloud over here.

I'm glad, too. I love the extended daylight. It's so summery!

We don't celebrate Daylight Savings Time in Arizona. And I'm glad. I have philosophical objections to messing around with what time it is that I won't bore you all with.

You mean jerking people around so they're likely to buy more stuff? Who could have a problem with that!?

I hate losing sleep.

But on the bright side, there will be sweet, sweet daylight when I get off work now...

I don't like the shorter night's sleep (though I get I could just go to bed an hour early, and might change my clock now so as to facilitate that), but I sure do love me those long, bright evenings. I can't wait. It makes a giant difference to me to have 2-4 hours of daylight available after the work day; it's like a whole second shift full of outdoor-play opportunity. It doesn't do much for me when more of the available daylight is in the early AM.

w/r/t philosophical objections - it's just an agreement. I worked in two different outdoor education situations in which we messed with the time. In one, we set the clock forward when our group arrived Monday and back when they left on Friday. This had a whole bunch of positive effects on the kids who were there, and allowed us to get them active early in the day and make the most of the available daylight, since we were outdoors until about 9 PM even in the winter. The other one was a summer camp, and we set the clock forward a half hour at the end of the summer, in August, because it was getting dark earlier and we wanted to be able to continue our evening programs outdoors, which again went to 9 PM. Having those experiences made me think a lot about routines and time and how malleable time really is. When your main concern is using daylight, you can adjust around that easily. The rest is culture.

I hate the time changes. I always feel all fucked up for the next week or so.

I'm with sperose on this one.
Totally fucking hate spring forward. I am always late waking up and this will only make my Monday morning more difficult.

On the plus side, I do appreciate the extra sunshine once I get adjusted.

Apparently, heart attacks go up 5% the week after spring forward and down 5% the week after fall back. Testament to the power of sleep.

(I do like the extra light. When I lived in Ohio, it meant it didn't get dark until about 9:30 in the summer. That was nice.)

It might just be from all the people who forgot to reset their clock and realized "OMG I'm about to miss the [wedding/meeting/deadline/court date/scheduled medication...]"

I don't mind it at all. In fact I'm always a little excited that there's suddenly daylight in the evening... and in the fall, that it's not pitch-black when I wake up.

You'd be surprised how many random towns and counties don't do DST in the Americas... ones that are surrounded by a province or state that does. I think the Wikipedia article has a pretty good overview of it. The whole thing is so weird and arbitrary but certainly interesting.

This means it'll be dark again when I get to work all next week. But yeah, I love it during the summer when there's still a little light in the sky at 9:30 PM.

Thanks! I have NO idea how I missed any other announcement about it. And I have to work tomorrow so that hour late would have been embarrassing.

They posted signs about it at the hotel where I'm staying. That was thoughtful.

Daylight savings time? An abomination! Around here we use God's time! Hang the railroadmen!

Cripes, I slept until 10:00 this morning, this is going to take some adjustment. It doesn't help me that it's a dark gray rainy Western PA morning. *Yawns*
