Hey, what do you call that red chicken on a skewer? [More:]

Korean chicken? You know the dyed red chicken? It's not red sweet and sour sauce, at least not the syrupy sweet and sour stuff. It's dark red and looks like it was smoked? This chicken on a skewer isn't even that saucy, it's just died red. I'm not even sure if it's Korean. I'm looking for the exact name.

Thanks.
Are you thinking of tandoori chicken?

My goodness that photo has made me hungry. *must not gnaw off hand, or computer screen*

Thanks, people. Maybe it is Tandoori and tikka. Since I don't remember it being served with chutneys, and not overly flavorful, I'm not sure. It's boneless chicken, kind of like a chicken strip. The cut of chicken probably doesn't matter though. For now, I'll call it "chicken with red food coloring".

Are you sure it was red? Your description makes me think of chicken satay, as in Thai food.

Tandoori isn't Korean. I think I know what you mean - I had some Japanese yakitori that looked just like what you described.

You are most definitely thinking of chicken tikka.

My husband calls the chicken on a skewer "rat on a stick." He's not a big fan of Asian food...

mullac, I don't think it was satay. I think it may have been catered from a Chinese restaurant, but I'm not sure and I'm not sure it's Chinese. It was definitely redder than red. It reminded me of red spareribs, but chicken. The satay and yakitori look identical but it's red. Maybe it is yakitori. Thanks, guys. It's not super important, I wanted to read about it.

Did you see Meatbomb's comment?

Chicken Tikka: Modern chefs often color chicken tikka with orange or red food coloring. Traditionally the colors originated from turmeric for orange and cayenne and paprika for red.
