A theological question:→[More:] Monotheistic religions regard their gods as perfect beings. The Christian God is perfect, ie whole, entire, having all the good qualities one can have (like omniscience, omnipotence and omnibenevolence). Does this mean, then, that he/she also purrs and/or has long floppy ears?
I think that you have to view this like the whole transubstantiation thing: God has long floppy ears in essence, but the physical appearance is a beard and flowing robes.
I'm not religious, but if I were, I'm not sure I'd be able to get behind a god whose greatest joy was to be scratched behind the ears. There's something fundamentally non-awesome and non-awe-inspiring about that. In a god, I mean. In a cat, it's pretty awesome. But not in a god.
Maybe my problem is that I spend most of my life trying to convince my cats that they're *not* gods, so I'm resistant to the idea of a higher power with feline characteristics. I mean, maybe that's it. But mostly, I stand firm on my original assertion of non-awesomeness.
