Look At This Cat need your pictures of awesome cats. Because cats are awesome.→[More:]

I spent yesterday building this because, hey, cats are great and I have poor impulse control.

It is intentionally silly in layout and functionality. Anything beyond looking at cats and saying "hey that cat is awesome" is probably outside the scope of my intentions. That said, suggestions are always welcome.

I've collected a few dozen cat submissions from helpful secret tester people, but I'm ready for more cat pictures and feedback, so here we go.

Submission details are here, but the really abbreviated version is this:

- send me email with attached photos to submitthiscat@gmail.com
- your photos, not random net images you found here or there
- tell me the cats names or i will make it up, tell me your preferred credit name or I'll just use what's on your email

And that's basically it.

I am submitting my kittens. I hope they don't get stuck in the tubes. Well, I hope Turtle doesn't get stuck in the tubes. If Zuzu were to take a little stuck-in-the-tubes vacation, I'd probably enjoy it a little. But then I'd feel bad, and I'd stick a pool cue or something up in there to unjam her.

How about if I just post a cat picture here from Flickr and you can then have it? I am way too lazy to download an old cat picture and then email it to you. No, no, you must do the hard work and yank it out of this thread or from Flickr where it is like all my stuff CC and thus downloadable. So here is Pebble. I won't be offended if you too are too lazy to post her.

GET THEE BEHIND ME SATAN! I've started having cat fantasies again... I always wanted a Siamese, and almost got two, a couple of years ago, but my husband dissuaded me long enough that they were gone when I checked back again.

I kinda floated this awesome idea again, and he still thinks he doesn't want kitty. Silly, confused man.

I would have shipped Pebble to you around 3 this morning with no qualms, taz. That was when she decided she was bored with all this dumb sleeping stuff and started carrying on and meowing and jumping from dresser to dresser and, worse, dragging around that stuffed cow that goes MOOOO really loudly. It's nice for Pebble to have her own pet cow, but not at 3 am.

Despite being a librarian, I have no cats, but have many friends with cats. When I click the "show me more cats" on this peecee here at work, I don't get a new cat. Sidewalk cat is tauntin me. Also whatever font you used isn't native here so the site looks weird with jaggedy 1996 fonts. I can send a screenshot if you want one. Yay cats!

I thought the jaggedy 1996 fonts were intentional.

I want to submit my mom's cats, but they are not mine and I didn't take the pictures. Oh, the dilemmas!

My only issue is that the link position for "show me another cat" changes depending on the size of the image, causing unneeded mousing (ha!) to get to more cats. A static link position would help usability, I think.

You may also run into scalability issues with keeping people honest about submitting their own cat pictures instead of random cats they find online.

Still, pretty freakin' awesome.

Would also be nice, for us keyboard lovers, to be able to hit return key for "show me another cat" instead of clicking the mouse all the time. It's faster to scroll through them using the keyboard. Otherwise, great site!

In the long run, I should really look into an automated submission queue type process, but I think the email thing is a good way to start.

I reworked the space above the photo some to put a "show me more cats" link in a static above-the-pic position for those who like to click rather than F5. May fiddle with layout of voting a bit too.

I sent you a pic I took of my parents' cat Tigger.

Sweet little guy who lost an eye to another cat my parents USED to have...but the vet fixed him up just swell.

Doesn't seem to miss that eye any.
